  • Bit mundane underlying logic which can of course be embellished by the characters you populate it with: a brewer with connections to the royal court has acquired a monopoly by lobbying for brewing to only be allowed under royal warrant. They have managed to gain regulatory capture through their connections and all the other brewers are getting raided and their inventory flushed. Now the 'royal' brewer can set much higher prices without any danger of being undercut.

    Or you could work it as some variant of beer purity law

    Eurovision is a very popular show. If we allow its campy nationalism to be a vehicle for humanising unapologetic fascism then we reduce the hope that the public will bring electoral pressure on the Europe wide leaderships that have been supporting and providing diplomatic cover for the genocide in Israel.

  • Those two missing camera films should contain the start of the violent interaction. What we are left with shows one of the security guards running towards the protestors carrying a hammer and a whip. And we have the physical evidence where the injury on the face of one of the protestors appears to have been made by a hammer. The same protestor has a large round bruise on his torso from a blow from a sledge hammer. Which when we next see that same security guard, on the videos made available, he is carrying.

    How this fracas started is vitally important for the UK's government proscription of the group. They are desperate to portray the protestors as having violent intent. However the same group made a number of attacks on the manufacturing of arms and other materials destined for Israel's genocidal army but to this point never hurt anyone.

    What the missing footage likely shows is that the protestors where violently assaulted by the guards and by the police that subsequently arrived and that they had a fight or flight reaction.

  • It's fair to say that Israel has wanted to push out or kill all the Palestinians for decades, yet no POTUS before Biden gave them carte blanche to do so. Going on that standard there's no telling what Biden's actual red lines were. Especially since reducing Iran to reinforce the stranglehold of the global north's oligarchs has long been a goal of the Pentagon too.

  • This is just the same oft repeated toxic nonsense. .ml is no worse than any of the other subs. There has been a fairly steady rachet campaign since I joined to either get leftwing instances banned or encourageing folks to block them.

    People going into a Marxist-Leninist instance trolling with long debunked US-hegemon propaganda are not going to give an honest account of the place.

    On a wider point, there are probably a number of topics that are triggering for some folks in ways that catch people off guard. For instance people both-sidesing issues that if you only follow main stream media might seem a reasonable and popular position but the actual history of the issue can go back many decades and be obscenely unjust. Folks that have been paying attention or, worse, have been personally effected, may have a hair trigger on that issue. It's very easy for bad faith actors to tone police folks like that. Especially when a majority of people are uninformed on the issue.

  • There's a dozen or so that post constant propaganda against countries that don't conform to US interests. Their approach is so similar that it's hard to believe there isn't something that links the accounts.

    This type of behaviour is discoverable. There are probably much more subtle campaigns ongoing too. I'm undecided as to whether it is just the efforts of some 'centrist' zealots or there are some actual spooks in here.

    These folks are specifically trying to stir shit. [It's like walking into an Indian reservation and yelling that we speak English here, that this is a white country and if you don't like it you should go home. Then they try to get the reservation closed due to the roughing up and expulsion they received] The usual form this takes is repeating long debunked anti-communist propaganda, that a majority of people in the western media orbit have swallowed whole, so the resulting mod action seems disproportionate.

    If you join there yourself you will find, like most instances, respectful conversations and a healthy community. And like anywhere else you will find a spectrum of personalities and a handful of kooks.

  • Signal's creation and running costs were largely financed by the US intelligence community. So they're right to be cautious.

    It may seem like it's technically impossible to track usage but nothing is 100% safe as long as there are humans involved that can be bagged up and dropped off in some offshore torture site.
