  • You're totally missing my gripe, I have nothing against EVs but rather modern cars in general due to their nigh universal unrepairability. & a control units cost compared to the new purchase price isnt the problem, its when a car is 3-5 years old & something breaks. And it isnt just the control units price either, you basically always need to have it coded at a dealership, replace any parts its been coded to.

    Suspension parts are absolutely not common to most manufacturers either you'll get common parts between the various automotive groups but thats about it. You do get standardised sizes on the springs but the suspension links, arms, wheel mounts etc are all proprietary.

    In wet climates thin sheet metal fairs quite poorly which is what most of these cheaper vehicles are made from & BYD in particular really isnt great in this regard. Chery, Jaecoo etc tend to have better build quality in this area though.

    And repair costs on older ICE (and the limited number of EVs from 15-20 years ago) for virtually all parts is cheaper in large part due to labour but even the actual components arent that bad in comparison to modern vehicles.

    A new vehicle im actually excided for due to all my gripes is the slate truck for hopefully obvious reasons.

  • Britain also has a significant issue of under employment, getting a full time contract in many entry level roles these days is borderline impossible.

    The way the statistics are presented as well mean that the actual situation is likely even worse, the unemployment rate doesn't actually include those not trying to look for work (which is a recorded issue in the UK among younger generations).

  • Usually completely unrepairable though with proprietary software and firmware along with God awful parts supply. Modern vehicles both ICE & EV are absolute turds.

  • A 1.8 205 diesel van came up by me, almost managed to buy it before I settled on the R5 (someone got there before me unfortunately although given diesel prices have gone nuts mightve been a blessing in disguise lol), 205s are beautiful vehicles.

  • Cornwall would need to be attached to Wales in some way tbh, its economy is just too small otherwise unless it was turned into something akin to the Isle of Man. Giving norn iron back out of nowhere though is a absolutely awful idea and would cause a second troubles this time started by the protestants & orange men. IMO best thing to do with NI is create a co-dominion between Éire & the UK for it.

    Adopting the euro is genuinely the one thing that'd get me to vote against rejoining the EU.

  • Adopting EUR is genuinely the one thing that'd make me vote against rejoining the EU. Had Britain not had control over fiscal policy in 2008 it would've been a unmitigated disaster. Plus sterling is reasonably stable and there's no real downside to Europe having sterling within the Union given its used quite a bit as a reserve currency.
