  • Like I said, royals aren't normal people. See the fabled family tree of the Ptolemaic dynasty:

But that only works if you have a family fortune to protect. Normal people would rather spread their children around and increase their chances of survival.

  • feddit.uk

    Yeah, I can see that.

But seriously, how much "incest" does the average family tree really have? And I'm drawing the line at great-grandparents, anything less than that is unrelated imo.

Royals were doing multiple generations of first-degree incest, that's on a completely different level from normal people.

  • That's because they refused to explain it. There's no secret knowledge that activates when you hit 13*, someone has to teach it to you.

*) Well... Except for that, of course.

  • Viscount Rothermere

Had to look up if that's someone's name or what. It's Harold Hamsworth, owner and founder of the Daily Mail and unapologetic racist, elitist, nazi piece of shit.

It's crazy to me that people like this were still allowed to own newspapers after the war. You don't have to put them against the wall, but you can at least take away their power.

  • The meteor was, according to NASA, about 2 feet across and weighed 1000 pounds. So their baby elephants are on the lighter side and their corgis are fairly normal size.

I'm going to assume a sphere, 60 centimeters in diameter, and a weight of 450 kg. Volume of the sphere is 113000cm3, which gives us a density of 3,9g/cm3. That's heavier than most rocks (silicon at 2.3), but much lighter than iron (7.9).

  • If he couldn't tell the difference, he'd have said that Netanyahu tried to take Kyiv or that Zelensky leads the APF. That would be a terrible mistake to make.

He can tell the difference though. When making an analogy, you can ignore some of the differences to make a point about the similarities. And if there are relevant differences, the question he posed will draw those out. It's a good question.

  • It is someone roleplaying as Milo Murphy from the animated series Milo Murphy's Law. The joke is that Milo is a direct descendant of that Murphy and the Law describes his family.

  • Is this peak denimization? Like, what could you denimize to beat jarretels? There's nothing left except dedenimizing something that is denim by default and then redenimizing it.

  • She played a main character in Camp Rock and had her own Disney Channel series for a bit. Beyond that I don't really know, but many of those Disney Channel kids had very succesful careers in showbiz. Once you have a foot in the door, you get voice acting bits, appearances on variety shows, just general celeb work on name recognition alone.

  • Good post. Well... good edit, because that first paragraph makes no sense. But I agree with the other six!

  • I think these are all gacha games? Or at least FGO, Azur Lane, Genshin, Honkai, Nikke, Blue Archive and Uma Musume are. I don't really recognize anything from the bottom section, except Heaven Burns Red, which is also a gacha game, so I guess "media" to this person means waifuslop designed to extract maximum value from lonely salarymen.

  • Drowning isn't peaceful. There's ways of asphyxiation that are surprisingly peaceful, but drowning isn't one of them, not even when done well.

But also, don't die to escape from a job. You can escape normally. It's usually really easy to do: they let you go home, just don't come back. Go do literally anything else.

  • As if any of your victims will ever see the reveal. None of the other grifters will want to expose you and your reveal won't be boosted by the fascist algorithms, so for your victims it will be just like you dropped off the face of the earth, if they remember you at all between the dozen new scammers they see every day.

  • Thanks, that gives me some options at least, even though there's little hope. It went from plenty fast and healthy two days ago to basically dead yesterday, without much warning. At least as far as I could tell.

I see these articles talk about "failing", but what state would that have been? Should I have seen the signs and prepared? (Though I think "prepare" would've been the standard advice of backups, second drive, second location.)

  • It is an HDD and it's about 10 years old, so I'm assuming the worst. I don't know much about failure modes of hard drives, whether it would be mechanical, electrical, magnetism gone stale...

Anyway, I'll disconnect it for now, order a fresh drive and try to ddrescue the image to that. Seems doable at least.

  • When Jordan said "Super Doctor Tony", I really really thought she was going to finish that with "Tony Chopper" and be the most correct anyone has ever been.

  • Sunless Sea mentioned! Most of its value is in setting, writing and atmosphere, which are all really well executed. The gameplay was fun enough, but combat is tedious and I tried to avoid it, like you'd do in a horror game. I see it more as a visual novel with some exploration and resource management. Focus on the story, the characters, the locations. Fetch a macguffin only because it makes the story progress or because it makes you go beyond the explored world, not because you're so interested in the act of fetching.
