  • A well aged cheese. Honorable mention to Creosote bushes (thunderstorm smell)

  • That and Jean Marie Le Pen

  • Trump after he’s Ghaddafi’d? Sure. And that’s coming from someone who thinks public toilets are stressful.

  • Ask your local university facilities department about their overstock policy. The university of Arizona literally has a warehouse where you can peruse their old computers and furniture and buy at Craigslist prices.

  • The phone was immediately useful once jailbreaking v1.1.1 through Safari happened. The apps and tweaks made my head spin with the possibilities. The general public needed the AppStore with v2 in order to see it.

  • My guess is that the caffeine content would be lower, and thus not worth reheating for?

  • You take an entry level position and suffer for at least a year or until you have the requisite experience for a job change. Truth of the matter is that there’s a lot of credential inflation; it’s gotten so bad that it’s become a bipartisan issue in the US.

Also, fun fact: getting a job is about who you know not about what you know. My husband and I have the same amount of experience, but he’s an executive, and I had peaked at middle management, but am currently working entry level because I can’t find another management position (and we don’t need more income). He’s the luckiest person you’ll ever meet; every time he gets fired, he gets a huge promotion and raise for looking on the job market because he knows a few good references. (he works in finance, which is prone to office politicking, thus easier to be fired)

  • I’m not an expert, but in that case, the company just splits into different sub-companies, no? The manufacturing arm would have a CEO paid in stocks and lower level workers still make nothing.

  • I guarantee you that there’ll be a no-steam driver for this in a matter of months.

  • Make consumers extremely aware of the taxes they pay so that anytime reducing taxes on the rich comes up they think “yeah, I hate taxes, let’s lower them!”

    This is the answer.

  • American prices reflect the lower purchasing power within the US interior because pricing has to be the same across state lines (because otherwise people would take advantage of state discounts, similar to how people take advantage of the no-VAT states). The US even has programs where banks give free money (usually 100-300$) to open accounts in order to incentivize people to spend and churn their financial institutions.

A huge chunk of the American economy is predicated on uneducated people being goaded into overspending by giving them extra money they think they can spend on non-necessities. For example: a bank gives you 100$ for opening an account, so you buy a 150$ sofa using their credit card, predicated on the fact that sofa purchase wouldn’t’ve occurred without the stimulus. Because financial literacy is so low in the US, the bank makes a net profit because a large enough cohort of credit users won’t pay their balances at the end of the month and end up paying 25% interest (which is roughly the interest charged on these credit cards).

I’m lower middle class, and I absolutely take advantage of my vacation times to fly to or near VAT-free states to buy big ticket electronics and similar. If I could stack that and fly to Montana for no VAT and “poor state” pricing, I absolutely would.

  • It works for Quebec and they just want to follow the same playbook

Us Québécois are linguistically, culturally, and ethnically separate from the rest of Canada. Alberta is just culturally “pessimistic”, so it’ll never work for them to become independent. They’ll trip over their own dicks when it comes down to who will lead them amongst the conservatives. If the Middle East is any precedent, good luck pitting a jungle of conservative groups against each other for control. They can’t function without unity, which the Albertans lack on a fundamental level. They’re just going to remain the dicks who live out west and complain about social programs in QC and BC.

  • Ah Antwerp. The Trenton, NJ of Europe

  • I cannot wait to see legacy auto disappear. It’s about time they failed. It’s fucking absurd that the most expensive piece of tech I own has a 15fps display with touch response rate measured in seconds, rather than milliseconds. They did this to themselves.

Legacy auto did nothing to compete with Tesla software, and they came out over a decade ago.

Oh, and they took the ‘10 bailouts and did fuckall with them. They didn’t take the bailouts and make a suddenly better product.

  • 1% of all people. The patients at the facility were extremely diverse across every demographic you can think of.

  • After working with schizophrenia patients for a few years, I can genuinely say that there’s a good chance that’s the case with her. Thinking ordinary things are the devil, hyper-religiosity, and magical thinking are big signs.

  • Glad to hear I’m not the only one that has SMB issues lol. Can you recommend an alternative on Synology systems?

  • It’s not my view that they’re unwelcome. It’s the reality of NK…

  • My guess is that they’re calculating that it’s better to capitulate than to have to rehome the millions of Israeli citizens if Israel ceases to exist. They’re trying to keep Israel as a containment zone, because if Israel falls, where the Jews go? I can’t think of a single country in the region that would take them willingly. They’d have to migrate to the US or Europe.
