  • Thanks for the help and advice. What was the issue with your meshtastic experiment? If it's location granularity that's something I might be prepared to deal with.

    My privacy expectations are as follows:

    • No account needed with any major tech monopoly
    • No app where any data other than tag location is transmitted through the internet. Ideally the data transmission would have e2ee.

    In this case, the included exposed data included kids’ names, birth dates, family member names, and even the detailed summaries and transcripts of every previous chat between the child and their Bondu stuffed animals.

    Anyone with a Gmail account knowing who lives where with whom? Ya, super unproblematic in the times of Adolf Trump and his SS ICE.

  • Sorry but the proposed ways to approach the situation is akin to putting everyone in jail just to be sure, because a handful of people are criminals. I'm a parent myself, so I'm well aware of the dangers and difficulties. Guess what? Those dangers don't vanish when you hit 18. You'll just be even less prepared to identify fake ragebait content. Everyone needs to be educated on the matter so that parents can do a better parenting job. What's next? Banning sugar because mom and dad can't be arsed to explain to their children that cornflakes are a dessert treat and not a breakfast?

  • You have no idea dude. The general populace, especially tired parents have no clue. Most of the parents I talk to are in favor of this. One less parenting resonsability for them. And to them their data is already available to everyone everywhere so it makes no real difference in their mind. It's infuriatingly mindboggling.

  • I'd like to add that you can setup Adguard or Pihole in your network to use microsoft telemetry blacklists to limit their sniffing. My work laptop constantly reminds me that I'm not connected to the internet although everything works fine, because it can't reach the captive portal 😄

    1. I was commenting on the availability of ID apps, not on the participation in social media and other services
    2. Internet access and privacy are human rights. If those are taken from anyone, for example by mandating becoming a big tech customer to access ID apps, it becomes at least a social issue, if not a legal one.

  • The only official ID apps I've ever seen only run exclusively on android and ios. Meaning you can't partake in any digital governmental services without being a google or apple customer. Which seems at least flawed, if not down right illegal.

  • Noch einer der glaubt, dass es hier um Jugendschutz geht. Passt doch mal bitte besser auf Leute. Weltweit werden immer die gleichen Vorwände genutzt um das gleiche zu bewirken: komplette Überwachung. Social Media Verbot lässt sich nämlich nur durch Deanonymisierung des Internets umsetzen.
