  • Fair point. The car has actually been in my family it's whole lifetime. It was taken care of and regularly maintained, like all cars should be.

But if you bought your car in a shitty condition and/or can't afford to repair it, it's fine.

  • Well, my 2002 Golf mk4 1.9 TDI only needed a rear axle replacement, some not really necessary stuff (rust) and oil changes.

What are people doing with their cars?

  • Well, people enjoy others having less rights so they have more.

"What do you mean I can't have slaves farm cotton for me?!" - Yes it's that simple, you just have to make one cynical joke.

  • That's also kinda depressionmemes (if that exists).

  • Well, if you want a cheaper option, look at the Chuwi tablets, which are new around 250-300 and have some decent Intel CPUs and pen input.

  • Yay for lebensraum or something...

  • It's more like a DNS as far as I know. They also had a service for opera mini j2me and Symbian to mirror webapps from a server (so it might be that technology). With how the tech works, I wouldn't really trust it's privacy (but it still was the only decent option in 2018, when I actually used it).

  • Just disconnect the antenas. In some cars, you can even unplug the telematics system.

  • Well, try doing that in a Honda Civic. Maybe with a wagon...

  • While the packages are a shitshow (missing depends, etc. (Edit: I had multiple problems with shotcut because of this and grew frustrated enough that I just use the Appimage now)), the TW is updated very often and is really stable, it's on a level with fedora. Also the default firewall config is very strict, which is good.

Yes, the Yast installer is terrible and I had to do my encryption with ext4 (instead of BTRFS) manually in terminal, because the install would somehow break everything.

It's a mixed bag, but as a disorganized person who doesn't do regular updates and still likes to have new packages, I like it.

  • Well, the Life is strange and Stray Soundtracks took a lot of effort.

  • The majority of people are stupid. Who would have thought.

  • Well, I'm not denying, that spanking isn't way better than beating or other types of abuse, but always explain your kids what they did wrong. Kids aren't stupider than adults, they are just less experienced. "Beating the shit out of them" is just a way to assert authority by emotionally scaring them.

  • Keep in mind, that Brax uses misleading YouTube videos and their devices are as secure as my 2017 Redmi with LineageOS and a non-relockable bootloader (which I use with caution).

Also: mobile linux doesn't even offer the security of Secure boot on laptops (maybe Purism does, as they have a good track record on their laptops).

Please don't be an idiot, use GrapheneOS as it is the only security focused mobile OS.

  • Yes, everyone cares enough, they will definitely change that.

As far as I know, people are too stupid to even understand what sideloading is (it is about that, right? Edit: yes.)

  • The classic: "At least I don't beat you with my belt, like my dad did."

  • Sincerely, fuck you. As a person who experienced beating (and other physical and psychological abuse by multiple family members).

Even if you (in your subjective opinion) beat your child just the right amount, you will probably overstep the boundary at some point. My dad used to occasionally beat me, sometimes he had a reason (which I figured out from context or was told from someone else, I was never explained what I did wrong) and sometimes, I feel like he didn't. He once tried to suffocate me with the sofa cuishoning (the only reason I survived was because I tilted my head enough I was able to breathe), and I still don't know why he chose to do that.

I also had to come to school with a visible bruise around my eye (and was afraid the social services would be alerted, as at 13 I already knew that, as an Autistic, I wouldn't be treated well).

There was also some psychological abuse from my mother, which I won't write about here because this is turning into a disorganized rant (but I feel like she enjoyed my pain, while my dad didn't).

I don't think I learned anything from being abused, apart from being quiet and avoiding confrontation whenever possible.

Also, "bare ass" spanking (which I haven't experienced) is sexual abuse and no one could convince me otherwise.

YOU are normalizing even worse types of abuse, but somehow people are fine with it.

  • Well, I think the latitudes are great to work on (at least my 5290). Just remove the Phillips screws on the back cover and you can replace practically everything. But it's still way more delicate than the t440p (which is harder to accidentally harm.

  • BTW, HP is terrible. My 250 g5's aftermarket (AliExpress) fan is alive since 2018, but the original died in a year. The original battery just died one day (probably a dead cell) and the aftermarket ones died in the same fashion. And of course the plastic started falling apart in 2019 from just moderate wear.

My 2018 latitude 5290, I bought used in 2023 needs just a battery replacement and maybe the thermal compound. I even dropped it many times and only needed mild bodywork (some plastic welding).
