Currently spending way too much time in World of Warcraft, Counter Strike 2, and absolutely obsessed with Sea of Stars.Always down to connect with fellow gamers and fediverse wanderers 👋

  • I have very fond memories of this game also. And your post made me realise this is another title that I'm missing from my collection.. damn

  • I just made an account on Bookwyrm last week but I'm kind of confused with it. Is it just basically public reviewing of books you've read/reading?

  • They are very clearly "a 40 year old traveling nurses who is a lesbian"

  • Notice how none of the birds were "real"?

Time to bring back the birds are government spy robots conspiracy

  • With the added shipping and tax on bringing it into the country, plus postal insurance on an international package like that. Really not worth the time, money and downsides compared to just buying local

  • It's already ridiculously expensive for what it is. $700 in store here in Australia

  • Well this name was definitely a lesson to double check what you read from a post when just scrolling on by...

  • Just added Accelerando to my backlog. Thanks for the recommendation 😀

  • I saw this video show up as well, and it got me thinking what are mine?

I tend to do tonnes of research before buying any tech. But potentially it would be my TP-Link BE6500 WiFi 7 router. Like it works amazingly well, and it solved all of the routing and bandwidth issues with streaming and gaming on WiFi, however I don't think it was worth the price or headache getting it working.

Otherwise, not sure if we're regarding this as tech, but I purchased the Illumi Classic IPL device a few months ago. I made the wrong decision here, I should have spent the extra and picked up the Illumi Pro instead.

  • Thanks everyone for the responses and recommendations! I didn't expect this post to drive so much engagement, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the responses waking up today haha. I'll try to respond as the day goes on. Thanks again all!

  • Just looked this up and it has gone straight on to my backlog, thanks for the recommendation!

  • I tried Ready Player One, but I struggled to get into it, and it's actually what got me on to Snow Crash in the first place

  • Books @lemmy.world

Just picked up Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

  • Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you, wishing you the best of luck in your new life now ☺️

  • Not sure of local pricing in your area, but would a ThinkPad T480 or T490 be within budget? The AMD version (I think it might be the T495, someone correct me if I'm wrong) would be my pick personally.

  • I think it has to depend on a person by person basis. For example, I have to be left for me to figure it out, if anyone else tries to get involved then I guarantee I will be burnt out after a day and then just give up for a while.

Others may benefit from the help and guidance, but not all of us unfortunately 😔

  • I've gone up and down throughout my life, and these days I am quite an awkward individual in person.

However, what worked for me in my early 20s when I was probably at my most sociable was finding a hobby to interact with people in. Even something as simple as a monthly book group can work wonders on your social skills

  • Timber and truckers is what I was originally taught. I remember it taking a while to get the truckers hitch down then out of no where it was like 'snap', had it ever since lol

  • For that device I personally would focus more on SNES and GameBoy gaming (up to Advance), so I'll just mention a couple of my favourites.

    SNES:

    • Chrono Trigger > One of the best JRPGs ever. If never played before, well worth giving this a try.
    • Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars > Sooo much fun, easy to burn hours.

    GameBoy:

    • Pokemon Red/Blue/Green > Original Pokemon series, if you love it you love it.
    • Pokemon Yellow > The Special Pikachu Edition has Pikachu following you around, its cute, and the one I would recommend personally out of the originals.
    • WarioLand 2 > One of my favourite platformers on the GB.
    • GameBoy Gallery 2 > Contains old Game and Watch games but with a (at the time) modern take on them + the original versions. I've wasted hours beyond hours playing modern Fire.

    GameBoy Color:

    • Pokemon Gold/Silver > It's Pokemon lol
    • Swiv > Kind of forgotten title, but really fun scrolling shooter (I think this the best way to describe it)

    GameBoy Advance:

    • Pokemon Fire Red > An updated version of the original Pokemon Red. If it's your first time playing any of the originals, I would say try this one as it feels more modern to play due to the updated pixel art.
  • gamedate.org really deserves to be promoted around gaming communities way more than it currently is!

So many older but still online shooters could be somewhat revived (even if only briefly), would love to play some Day of Infamy with a full server again!!
