  • I agree with Marx on this one. Religion is a reflection of materialist conditions. To that end, any group cultures is going to be, in some way, a reflection of materialist conditions. Therefore, Atheist talking as a group will be somewhat identical to religion.

For my honest beliefs, I will happily label myself as athiest; antithiest. Any "God" that treats it's children this way is in no way worthy of worship. And I would rather believe that I was just very unlucky than to believe that a consciousness in the universe chose to curse me with the afflictions I face.

  • I'm working on a theory, that the rise of livestreaming and the erosion of rights, or at least sympathy, for the disabled are connected. You can decide what kind of -posting this is, but the disabled have historically been shunned to venues of less-than-repute entertainment to make a living. Carnival workers, 'freak show' members, etc. And live streaming is just the next venue to pop off. As more disabled people, who are unable to work a regular job, give streaming a chance (www.twitch.tv/myelint tomorrow at 1 p.m. est) the expectation that the disabled will be able to make a good amount of money just playing video games is reinforced in society and the idea that we may need assistance, especially financial, becomes less accepted.

But even for the successful, it's just like working those older jobs. There is no advancement in the field of streaming, just as there was no advancement for working at a carnival. Even worse, creators on streaming platforms are not given the same workers' protections as a regular job, beholden to the 'gig economy' style of employment where you can have your job snatched out from under you and you get no attempt to bargain your own pay. Then there is the fact that you have to be constantly performing and hope you don't lose your audience.

Streetlight Manifesto - The Three of Us

  • The thing about historians saying that people were friends and not lovers is to avoid coming to conclusions without necessary evidence. Now, I'm sure there is a degree of homophobia, but historians aren't from those cultures, so they can't say for certain if a behavior was actually evident of homosexuality or if it is simply the lens of modern culture.

I have a funny story about this. In 1685, James II, a Catholic, came to the throne in England. The people, who were very protestant, let this happen with minimal rebellion because everyone thought he was gay. But in the 1600's they didn't really have a word for homosexuality, so the only thing that is clear from historical records is they were very sure he wasn't going to have a kid during his reign (he already had a daughter). So my history professor professor explained it as they all thought he was nudge nudge you know. But when he did end up having a son, all hell broke loose and the people of England basically invited William of Orange to invade.

  • Without looking into the justification, it seems perfectly reasonable tbh. Information theory is huge in physics, to the point that there are arguments that the bit is the fundamental unit of energy.

  • I have been kicking around a campaign idea where the BBEG is an evil wizard that has sucked all the evil out of the world to use for himself, so anything evil is instantly vaporized. Of course, the Wizard is evil and controlling, but it also upsets the natural order, so he must be stopped. Goblins are aligned neutral evil (As they often are) but along the way, the adventurers find a village of goblins who have learned to be good, but are under constant temptation do to bad things. So as the adventurers walk around the town, if they don't stop a goblin from biting them or pick pocketing them, POOF, goblin gone.

Of course this leads to a meditation on good and evil, and what that really means. Also all of the goblins are named after military contractors.

  • I had made my partner late to work because I was rushing to get these cookies done.

  • They're pretty good on most stigmas and things, but they aren't so good on Bipolar. Especially because they work with someone who I guess had to be hospitalized because she punched someone during a manic episode.

  • I appreciate it, thank you.

  • I appreciate this. I get my labs done very often (upside of MS?) so I can safely rule out thyroid issues on my own. I didn't want to go into my own behavior for opsec, but there are certainly behaviors that line up with manic and depressive episodes, along with some history of mood disorders in my family, though like you said I'm aware there are other explanations.

    Thanks for your kind words

I'm worried about telling my partner that I might have bipolar disorder.

  • Is it just me or is there this kind of American Israel supporter who has the mentality of a right-wing conspiracy theorist, but they're liberal so they can't question the government or the elites? Like, They latch on to the ideas like 'Israel is the only safe place for Jews to live' because they want to believe there is some evil force in the world that they can connect threads on a pin board to, but lacking in any right-wing boogeymen or actual class analysis, they just lean into what they see on MSNBC really, really, hard.

  • ngl I'm starting to come around on cursive, at least for signatures. It's fun to come up with your own little art piece to put on contracts and shit.

  • It's piss when you're a bad dog who goes inside. It's peepee when you're a good dog who goes outside.

  • Yes, they finally remembered that Metroid exists, and I appreciate it, but almost a decade and a half of completely forgetting about a female protagonist as pressure for exactly that continued to mount. Like, not even in promotional material for the most part. Call me bitter but Metroid games have consistently been one of the best experiences on each console they have been on, and the series was forgotten for years because It wasn't as liked in Japan as it was in America.

At this point it's complaining for complainings sake.

What else is the internet for?

  • I said nigh. But in the past 14 years we have gotten 1 new game and 1 remake. And the game before that was Other M.

  • You keep PS5 posting, and I keep making the same joke. But I want to say that I am genuinely happy you're enjoying the game

  • If it's such a worry, maybe people wouldn't ask for a Zelda game if Nintendo wasn't nigh ceaselessly shafting their only female protagonist

  • I'm on $6000 a month medication right now. If they took away the state insurance I'm on, I would be screwed. These people are almost literally doing gods work.
