  • But then they turned around and locked down their security camera license.

They're not great, but they are still really simple to set up for a novice. I wouldn't recommend them to someone with the knowledge and patience to roll their own, but for a family who just needs a plug and play alternative to Google/Apple/Etc. cloud, they're pretty easy.

  • Mother

    Jump
  • I did that for a bit, but there was a noticeable increase in power usage on my server for something I'm not using.

  • I don't understand this argument.

I paid once many years ago. I've never been asked to pay again. Why would I switch before they make a change?

In the meantime, jellyfin is getting better and better. Plex will probably be dead to me at some point, and when that happens, I'll hop over.

  • Iowa has a few places that never went above $4.

It is planned to boost the Swift telescope that was launched in 2004, and only planned to last 2 years, so it had no reboost capability.

The telescope is doing well 21+ years later, so now they're planning on sending a rescue boost mission before it decays into the atmosphere, which is happening slightly faster than expected due to higher solar activity creating higher drag.

  • It's the start of the Psychic Wars!

    Someone call Blue Öyster Cult!

  • This is an extremely simple solution. They'll even handle the DNS and security for you.

Synology is kind of the Apple of NAS in all the good and bad ways, but they certainly are dead simple to set up, and also give you a lot of flexibility to expand into a more complex, self maintaini tech stack if you want to.

  • Thank you for not just posting "it is a thing!" But instead backing it up with sources.

  • Did it hit a wave? What are the chances of that?

  • In the before-times there were only a few companies that made these. Now that there are more Chinese manufacturers, it's not quite as centralized to a couple brands, so yes, a LOT of kids and schools all had that exact same Fisher Price magnet set.

  • Dogs stomach acid is a lower ph than humans (stronger acid) which helps reduce the chances of bacteria, viruses, and parasites from getting into their systems.

Dogs also do absolutely get sick from drinking contaminated water, usually specific parasites. If you have a dog that spends a lot of time in wilderness areas, there's a lot of vaccinations you can give them to reduce the types of problems they'll get.

You should still try your best to let them only drink clean water, but with enough precautions, dog's bodies can handle much more contamination that human bodies can.

  • But, but, but... The Prusa is SO EXPENSIVE cause it's made with not slave labor!

And they slightly changed their open source licensing system to try to prevent Chinese cloans from duplicating their work for free!

And... It takes a few more days to ship since it's not coming on the same barge as the rest of the Alibaba slop!

/s (my only printer is a Prusa)

  • Oh cool, I can see the moon from my work window too. We must be pretty close, probably even on the same planet!
