I've learned about this restoration proposal from other social media, and the cost estimates are pretty striking to me. I am Italian, so obviously it's not strange to think about old buildings hosting government bodies, and also old buildings requiring closure, maintenance and restoration. But this scale is wild.
I think the period in which the current Palace was built might just be unfortunate: not old enough to be built like a tank, because it wasn't build privately by aristocrats or sovereigns but budgets and government were already involved, but not new enough to be completely fit for modern purposes and future-proof; also there are probably various materials and construction techniques that make it unsafe.
