  • Why can’t democratic trifecta states right now pass $25/hr minimum wage tethered to inflation?

Most states with a democrat governor have 15$+ minimum wage. So the democrats have already done that. It is good enough? No, but it is better than nothing.

If someone doesn’t want to be in your big tent with AIPAC, pro-business sycophants you portray them as ideological purists.

Bernie literally almost won the democratic primary. But nowadays, not even Bernie or AOC are good enough for modern leftists, because they prefer Israel to continue existing.

I am not an american btw, but your first priority as an american should be to get rid of the literal nazis. This isnt about policies, this is about the foundation of a democratic state. This is what is at stake.

Look at Hungary. Is Magyar a good guy? No, but that was secondary to the main fucking point, which was getting rid of Orban and his cronies. This is why everyone, both left and right, supported Magyar. Will it last? Probably not, but at least maybe now Hungary can slowly become a normal country.

It’s naive to think without serious pressure from the Left

The time to reform the democratic party is during the primaries and the time to put extra pressure is when the democratic party is in a position to actually do things. Once the democratic party is in charge, we can start talking about policies(as the main issue), we can start talking about reforming the electoral "winner takes all" system, etc.

Ask yourself, where are all those student protests about Palestine nowadays? The radical leftists are the biggest opposition of the Democrat party and intentionally or unintentionally the biggest supporter of Trump. The no kings protests were the biggest protests in the history of the US and you still had tons of permanently online leftists shitting on them for some reason.

History doesnt repeat itself but it often rhymes. From the wikipedia article on the communist german party(KPD), before the nazis took over

In this period, while also opposed to the Nazis, the KPD regarded the Nazi Party as a less sophisticated and thus less dangerous fascist party than the SPD, and KPD leader Ernst Thälmann declared that "some Nazi trees must not be allowed to overshadow a forest [of social democrats]".

We have been doing the "both sides are the same" since the beginning of time. But no, both sides are not the same. A shitty side that at least respects some basic democratic foundations is preferable to the literal nazis.

There is no communism, there is no democracy, there are no pro worker policies, there is no dialogue, there are no elections, if you have literal fascists in charge.

  • Just because the democrats technically have majority, doesnt mean that they do. You had people like Manchin, blocking everything.

  • The last time the Democrats controlled the presidency, senate and house was during Obama, and it was only for like 100 days. Thats how obamacare passed. And despite being very flawed, it is one of the biggest improvements in the quality of life of millions of people.

Most of the time, the Democrats cant pass shit, because young, leftist voters, dont vote.

But yeah, continue not voting, punish the not perfect Democrats, give absolute power to maga. Surely that will bring the proletariat revolution into existence.

If tens of millions of people suffer and die in the meantime, what can you do, thats the price of the revolution. Thankfully, your middle class white status shields you from the consequences of your virtue signaling.

Just the destruction of USAID will cause hundreds of of thousands of deaths, mostly in Africa. Millions of people have been imprisoned and deported. And in before "Obama was deporter in chief", 95% of Obama's deportations happened either at the border or after someone was arrested(for a different crime).

If you have a latin friend, ask them if they were afraid existing when Obama was president, in comparison to now, where people are afraid to pick up their kids from school.

  • I forgot when Bush or Obama literally said they would run for another term. I still have my Obama 2016 hat.

If you think that Trump 2 is anything like any other presidency(including Trump's first term), then i dont know what to say.

  • I am not even an american or give a fuck about DNC. It is basic math for a flawed electoral system. If you dont vote against Trump(or his successor), they will win. And the only alternative is the Democratic Party.

Your first priority as an american is to prevent the re-election of literal nazis. Your second priority is to change the "first past the post" electoral system. And then, once you remove the nazis out of government and have a functional electoral system, we can talk about third parties.

How can in good faith vote for a third party? What effect would that have? A vote for a third party, is a vote for the republicans. You assume that this would force the democratic party to lean more left? Bro, you probably wont even have free and fair elections, what are you talking about. We are not in a "we must change the democratic party" phase of reality, we are in "the next elections might not happen" phase.

  • There are places that are snowy most of the time and everything works just fine. It really isnt that bad if you are prepared and have appropriate infrastructure.

  • There is a reason there are no lions left in Europe, we killed them. We killed most wildlife and only recently we have tried to bring those somewhat large predators back(wolves, bears, etc).

I am pretty sure if there were polar bears in the Mediterranean, and the rest of the history remained the same, they would also be considered extinct or endangered.

All you need is a lot of humans and time and eventually all big animal threats will be eliminated.

  • Nukes is the least important part but even for nukes, numbers matter. It allows you to hit more targets with higher confidence that they wont be intercepted.

This is why China has gone into overdrive and pumping nukes like crazy, in order to reach relative equilibrium with the US and Russia.

Anyway, the amount of air refueling assets and flying radars Europe has are way fewer than needed because it was assumed that the US would be fighting alongside us. Same story with many other things.

Also because life is better in Europe, it is assumed there will be a lower political desire for casualties. Meanwhile for Russia, and especially rural Russia, going to war and even dying might be preferable for many people.

  • 3 things

    1. Without the US, Europe has significant capability holes(satellite, logistics, ground launched missiles, nukes)

    2. Multiple smaller armies might be, in theory, an order of magnitude "stronger" than the Russian military but because of inefficiencies, overlap capabilities and lack of unified command structure and organizing, they are effectively a circus that cant do much.

    3. Not all Europe will react the same and with the same urgency. A crisis(like russian soldiers occupying a small Baltic town) by definition will create huge cracks within Europe.

  • The main issue with american chocolates is that they taste like vomit because americans have associated that with chocolate. So american chocolate manufacturers add butyric acid in their chocolate so it can have that lovely characteristic taste. Butyric acid extends the shelf life of chocolate.

The rest of the world isnt a big fan of vomit for some reason.

  • John Bolton might be a hawk but he is pro NATO and anti-Trump(now). He might want to overthrow Maduro but he has no influence over the Trump administration nowadays.

  • In greek, bird is slang for penis(πουλί).

  • The Gulf War was about kicking Iraq out of Kuwait, after Iraq invaded. It had a wide support, both worldwide and within the Arab world. Saudi Arabia and Egypt actively participated.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_War

    Check the coalition drop down.

  • China has low proven oil reserves(per capita). Obviously they have some, it is a big country. They are also using shitload of oil. It isnt about how much you have, it is about how much you have in comparison to how much you need. Check oil imports by country. They are importing 2x+ more oil than they produce.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_imports

But the main issue isnt that they are importing oil, almost everyone is importing oil. The main issue is that their oil imports might be vulnerable if they decide to invade Taiwan and the US blockades the Strait of Malacca. And taking over Taiwan is a major priority for the current chinese administration. In 3-5 years, things will start getting pretty hot.

Only until the mid 90s that it became a net importer of oil.

Yes, because thats when they embraced capitalism, opened to the global market, WTO, etc. What followed was a massive industrialization of the country(actual industry, instead of farmers melting pots in their backyards), hence the demand for oil skyrocketed.

  • One of the main strategic goals of China is to not be reliant on oil/gas, because they have none. They have to import almost all of it(from Middle East) and if war happens, that would be a major strategic liability.

It is easier to get things done in the name of "national security", instead of in the name "humanity's survival". A national security issue threatens the very existence of the state, humanity's survival is too vague and who cares if it exists in the future, as long as the state survives.

Europe(and other countries), needs to act with the same urgency as China when it comes to the electrification of vehicles. Especially since there are actual national security issues that are caused by climate change(and potential chinese dominance in electric vehicles).

  • EA DICE(creators of Battlefield) is based in Sweden. EA Gothenburg(aka Ghost Games), creators of the Need for Speed games are also based in Sweden. Funcom, creators of Dune Awakening are swedish.

Avalanche Studios, creators of Just Cause games, are based in Sweden. Mojang, creators of Minecraft are swedish too. Frictional Games, creators of Amnesia and Soma are swedish. Fatshark, creators of Warhammer 40k Darktide are swedish.

It is important to note that nowadays, games are developed by devs all over the world, especially AAA games. But there are a lot of game devs based in Sweden.

  • I've read on Reuters that China is probably under promising and they will do better than they claim. At least China understands that climate change is real and is trying to do something about it. Unlike some other country. The bar is on the floor, yet some countries are struggling.

  • It has very little in common with the books. Some names and key moments. The best part of the series is the Empire arc, which is mostly original.

It does go through eras but even that is somehow bastardized in the name of the tv series. It is silly and ridiculous.
