  • go to the hospital. they're used to it.

  • TierZoo is the fucking best. He's also on Nebula for those with a subscription.

  • What do you mean a read-only feed?

  • Was this before Twitter added the ability to edit?

  • I think 95% of it is flying over my head, so I'm in the uncomfortable position of asking for a joke to be explained. Please?

  • I think it's the movie Tenet

  • To add to that, credit where credit is due, LLMs can often pick up on things like this. Machine translation has been LLM-based (or some primitive ancestors of LLM) for many years even before the AI boom. So AI probably helped a bit here.

That's my wild guess. I wouldn't call it a hypothesis, I'm just talking out of my ass.

  • Bird, plane, let's just compromise and call it a brain.

  • I can see the screw, pulley, and wedge (the tip). In a pinch, the whole thing can act as a lever. But I can't see any wheel and axle (no, the pulley isn't one), and there's definitely no inclined plane. Randall got ripped off.

  • I don't think there's any secret funding scheme that I would think is good. If it's secret, there must be something sinister about it, no?

  • Israel is sometimes nicknamed the 51st state... Guess there's something to that.

  • That's awesome.

  • Generalizations like this are useless. Obviously there are exceptions. There certainly are people who retain a sharp mind into old age and even past age 100. It's not that uncommon. If he also kept his body in good shape, it's easy to believe he can still drive as well as anyone half his age.

  • Is he still mentally fit to drive at 98? Damn that's impressive. You've got some good genes.

  • This looked real cool at first, but a single glance at the video tells you all you need to know: this is useless and can't be compared to gears in any way.

The torque is basically zero. You can't use this to drive any load. They don't couple like gears, they just have really really tiny effects on each other's spin.

    These quotes are hilarious:

“Regular gears have to be carefully designed so their teeth mesh just right, and any defect, incorrect spacing, or bit of grit causes them to jam,” explains Ristroph. “Fluid gears are free of all these problems, and the speed and even direction can be changed in ways not possible with mechanical gears.”

Fluid gears are free of all these problems, but they can't drive anything! The speed can't actually be controlled.

This is the homeopathy of gears.

  • One of the non-cakes on Is It Cake. I will claim victory by any means necessary!

  • I get that feeling from 90% of this artist's comics, but this one actually made me chuckle. More importantly, I shared it with my mom and it made her chuckle. She is not as accepting of LGBT+ as one might hope, so this was not a given.

It has all the elements of a joke, most importantly subversion of expectations. I'll give this one a pass. Save your rant for the next comic ;)
