  • Gas stoves never really got popular where I live. Been cooking on a electric stove all my life, not induction. Have had to use a gas stove in cabin conditions and the chance of accidentally leaving the gas on and such always freaks me out. Also I dislike having to fiddle with the flame, electric is far more predictable.

    Have raised a family aka cooked a lot for a few decades with an old school electric stove just fine, have also worked in kitchens and bakeries that had similar stoves. Very much a cooking person myself.

    I think it's just what you get used to.

  • Gretas character arc has been the most beautiful example of neurospicy intellectual inquiry and honesty, it makes me feel so happy and also seen.

    She grew up seeing the planet burn, tried the bourgeoisie okeyed ways of protest etc., it didn't work. Came to the logical conclusion that libs can't get to and I think her neurotype explains some of it. A great role model, a great human all round.

  • One of my favourite lecturers, a seasoned older lady who was very active politically in the 70s just quoted Fanon and is talking a lot about solidarity in the uni lecture I am attending right now.

  • Finland to take part for the first time in annual Nato Steadfast Noon -nuclear war rehearsals that start on the 14.10.

    The Left Alliance is voicing opposition to this, stating that there has been no discussions about this in parliament. Failing to aknowledge for the fact that they themselves voted for Finland to join NATO knowing fully well that this would follow.

    But to uphold the mask of some kind of left politics they've put up a stern post critizining this move, a post that of course changes nothing. Link in Finnish.

    Even Norway does not take part in these, but Finland is now speedrunning imperialism as the local bourge has finally been able to seal the deal on NATO after almost a century of propaganda. Nothing is being discussed in public or if it is, it's all glorifying american imperialism. Making Donald Duck the go to reading material for kids in Finland really paid of for the fascists.

    I'm the type of person who likes to share life moments and nice things. I also love if others do this, I'm the person who never minded people posting their morning coffee vibes on FB.

    So we have this family chat. I don't have friends other than work buddies who I don't really socialize with outside work. I am audhd and don't mind the solitude. But, I often share stuff I think might be nice to the fam in our chat. And they most often can't be arsed to even react in any way. They do react to the posts of my younger siblings or the posts my dad makes, but my posting is such a given that it is just there. This aligns with our family dynamic anyway.

    My youngest sibling especially who I am sort of a surrogate mom for typically never even looks at what I post, I see him pop online for a split second after I say something and know he didn't even bother to look at it or read it. Often resulting in not answering my questions as well, which is super frustrating for planning anything with him. Question like "so what time you will be here" anf he just doesn't bother, often leaving me hanging for days. It aligns with the way he treats me outside of the chat too. I am always there for him, always have been. (Tbf he is now coming to terms with his undiagnosed adhd, but paradoxically his unmasking is making him even more toxic. Not much masking was ever demanded of him in the first place, but he definitely doesn't see that or how different it has been for us older siblings, both afab.)

    Then they all say how nice it is that we are this close and have this active family chat when we do see each other, even though they rarely keep it active.

    So it makes me feel sad when it happens. I have tried to stop sharing stuff with them, but turns out I can't. I don't really have any social media accounts to share stuff in anymore and those made me feel even more sad and alienated. I find it to be a bit soulcrushing that my 40 second long tea brewing video that I tried to make very cozy for them is too long and too much to even bother to look at. Me sharing that out of joy of just having nice tea is something I think their middle class brains can't see because in our fam I'm the one who has been piss poor for decades and they haven't. When I can finally enjoy a treat that is probably a given to them, nobody cares. Not that I am saying they should, but why is it so hard to just be kind and nice. You can react to a thing just because its kind, probably feels nice when others do it for you so why not extend that even if you don't care one bit about tea or the autumn leaf colours outside your sisters house that day.

    But clearly there is no time to push a button once, because they are too busy watching tiktoks by people they don't even know, doing the grind or gaming. Yet I am expected to look, comment and react to all the posts they make.

    Not looking for advice, just venting a bit.

  • It's wild how the people who approach capitalism like it's a religion are able to sort of just state between the lines that there isn't child labor or how there supposedly are functioning regulations in global capitalism today. Completely ignoring the exploitation their neoliberal world order requires to maintain itself.

    It's not that complex, they are calling it complex the same way they call the Middle East complex. Understanding it would require engaging with something that takes some work. And if we ask a lib if a lib will "lib or not to lib", the lib will always lib. Because it takes zero effort to keep on libbing.

  • Some true shittification has been happening with shoes for sure. I used to get years of pretty extreme sports use from a pair of pretty cheap trainers and in the last years when I haven't been training nearly as much or walking nearly as much they only last a season at best. No matter how much you pay.

    One thing that has annoyed me the most is that in the past you got running shoes with that thicker cover over the toes always, that really helped in not getting your feet wet. Now they all are just that knitted stuff all the way to the sole and my toes are just always wet in the rain. If you want ones with that small piece of strurdier stuff, they are all in the price ranges that I can't afford to buy.

    It's the Sam Vimes "Boots" theory:

  • Yeah it is EU wide I think. It was touted as a mechanism of straight democracy. It is fully a system that gives people a sense of false agency, none of the initiatives that have not aligned with the interest of the powers that be have passed/impacted anything.

    Two recent examples: One passed where people signed it to stop the destruction of peatlands. No impact.

    Another one was to ban fur farms, the government gave fur farmers even larger bailouts aften ignoring it.

    We have been doing these for ten years now, the parliament has declined 90% of the ones that have passed. These have to be taken into consideration when 50 000 people or over sign them.

    The parliament also often drags ass on them and many have been inside the system for years without getting assessed.

    It is said that with this system citizens can take part in the political discourse, but mostly it seems that these are just a spectacle to do stuff that looks democratic.

  • In Finland news the government is going to privatize water next

    There was a citizens initiative to counter this in 2021, but as is to be expected it made no difference. There is now a new initiative (essentially a "please don't do this) up, but looks like we are getting privatized water next.

    The EU citizen's initiatives are the biggest scam in optics imo. Finns love them, they are doing so much democracy by signing them.
