  • Two? This is getting out of hand!

  • Ah, no, just giving a glimpse of my own very subjective perspective, based on a relationship where the language of gratitude was decidedly a one-sided affair: neither appreciated nor reciprocated by the other.

I obviously don't know your situation, knew even less before you mentioned ten years, and know less still about the situation of other people reading this conversation, so this was a general comment. We can sometimes miss the fact that other people have completely different interpretations of things that seem almost axiomatic to us.

  • The media is picking up the suspect's manifesto, throwing it at Trump's face and asking him to comment on it. It's not neutral and stand-offish, but by god if it wasn't high time for the media to grow a backbone...

  • Unless they have a matching personality, showing a lot of gratitude can easily turn unattractive to most people, because it often comes from a position of insecurity... Have a sense of measure even for gratitude is what I'm saying (but this is very much like a patient advising the doctor, because I'm very gratitude-heavy myself).

  • Its kinda crazy that Russia is now essentially out of tanks... The intermittent trickle of them has ceased completely over the past few days.

  • Was it made out of stainless steel?...

  • I think they've got low to medium tier jokes, but with excellent pacing and timing and without any fear of going into fantasy space. They kinda keep you hoping for a much funnier one, but yeah, they're not knee-slappers.

This one is decent and pretty typical: https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/09/09/home-city-usa

  • The man is in Super Extra Platinum Nobel tier at this point, a lot of people are saying it.

  • Nice, but even that is too optimistic... No player asks if the pawns want to play. There are no moves at all for most of us.

  • Oh okay... Never mind then :)

  • It's a testament to the quality of the programming and testing that they show Mario on the screen only if he's still alive. It would be easier to just show him without conditions.

  • There's an in-browser game, a political simulation for Germany's inter-war period from the point of view of the Social Democratic party (the biggest at the time, soon to be ousted by the Nazis): https://red-autumn.itch.io/social-democracy

You basically have to make lots of tough political and economic choices to try to slow down the explosive growth of the NSDAP party. It's tough but very replayable.

  • Those usernames look suspiciously alike in style...

  • It's a tiny bit premature to claim final ownership (unfortunately):

“…[I]t is not effective until Judge Guerra Gamble approves it, and Mr. Jones could appeal any ruling,” notes The Times. “That means the fate of Infowars remains in limbo until the court rules, probably sometime in the next two weeks. Mr. Jones continues to operate Infowars.com and host its weekday program, ‘The Alex Jones Show.'”

  • I think Americans have a subconscious and unsatisfied royalty fetish. Look at all the princesses and princes in children's cartoons, Hallmark movies and books and so on. Almost every other country is culturally like "ehhh" about kings, but since Americans never had any, they keep edging themselves to these fantasies.

They're finally learning what comes with it, the abusive and unjustified allocation of power, but not everyone is learning the same lessons or at the same rate...

  • Not all of them use the "case around a camera" approach (although a lot do, admittedly). The Olympus Tough series of cameras don't, for example. And really, phones would have pretty simple seams around the battery.

  • TL;DR

    • A legal complaint was filed against Google for handing over a user’s data to the government before informing the user.

    • Google says it informs users “when their accounts have been subpoenaed, unless under legal order not to or in an exceptional circumstance.”

    • The Electronic Frontier Foundation has now chimed in, stating that Google’s exceptions do not fit this situation.
