  • I experienced the same bug in winslop: It is not the neovim fault, but the terminal emulator. While WT (default for 11) is good enough, for some computers it is pretty laggy. I recommend wezterm.

Source: I manage many onprem windows PCs with automation, and some 1 of them experienced this issue.

  • Great now I procrastinating by watching youtube tutorials about how to be more productive, thanks!

  • Mine was an early M2 variant, it was without docs and even the image was removed from the offical site. I used a headless raspbian which was unstable, but it worked for years as a home server, until a lightingstrike fried it...

  • I wonder how these alt Pis are flaring in common Pi work (like running Home Assistant). I had a Banana Pi once, it was half the cost two times the power, but had way too many issues to be worth it.

  • Banking and other finance related services are the only place where I don't mind KYC. Others I drop as soon as they request it and I seek alternatives.

But I will drop my online bank as well as soon google enforce the 'only verified developer applications'. 90% of my applications, incuding system applications like laucher, are not installed from the play store. I plan to switch to a linux 'phone' and only use services which are usable from a browser / without google securnet.

  • pls dont, HDD prices are on the rise as well. Just full format 😅

  • I went nuclear, when gaming was still hit or miss (only wine existed) since I only installed windows to update my BIOS. I advise to use a separate harddrive and do not do as I did: Used gparted to separate space for windows in my data drive, installed, updated the BIOS, used gparted to recover my initial state. I was sweating the whole time, but all of my data was intact.

  • Simple: I already migrated most of my friends over Signal. I did not know better alternatives at the time. While I agree with you, not about SimpleX I dont have enough info about it, but about that there are better solutions.

  • We have to choose our threat level. Signal is great when you don't want to expose your data to companies mining it for their profit. It is not so great when you are a person of interest, and need absolute privacy.

The metadata is worthless and pricy to use it for an awarage joe.

  • oh I should have answered the question:

Either totally separated from everyone because I refuse to give up my privacy, or in a jail cell because I am against surveillance.

  • AGI is not the stuff we should fear at this moment or near future. Fascist billionaires holding most of our multimedia is way more scary. 100% of the humans do not think they can be manipulated, but here we are look around. Whoever controls the information will govern the world. Nobody cares, aside for gullible CEOs, about AI replacing human workers, its just used to squeeze extra money out of them. They only care about the mass manipulation potencial, which is already started. +Surveillance ofc, but we are already trained to give up our rights without even reading the terms.

  • That was my 1st account... Not signed for porn, but I switched to lemmy in the first big migratory wave, and no other instance replied to my registration request. I even donated. Since then I have registered to many lemmy, but only this (reddthat.com) survived 😭

  • I have used both Arch and Eos. I use a special tiling wm, and I have Nvidia. Form Arch I have to install everything I need, from Eos I just select install without a wm/dm remove some bloat and install the missing. Almost the same outcome, almost the same time to set up. So it does not matter (for me).

Out of the box Eos provieds ease, Arch provides knowledge (along the way). I have friends which are tech savy enough to daily drive Eos, but unintrested to learn how the linux ecosystem works by installing Arch (at least until a bug forces them to read the wiki)

  • I don't know how would you define 'influence'.

If I fix the reference point to the (mass?) center of the sun, then observe the moon relative position to the sun, then I see that the influence of the moon's position is way grater than the Earth's. Would the Moon fly away from the orbit if the Earth stopped existing?

  • I knew my argument was flawed, that was somewhat the point. I generally I don't think many ppl know about the Lagrange points. I know they are used to define what orbits what, but I don't have the knowledge yet to incorporate to my very flawed wordview.

  • Also thanks for mentioning the Hill sphere, I looking into that as well.

  • Not really, that was not my point. Just random thoughts shouted in the clouds. If I have to make a point, then I would say, categorizing things pretty hard, and the general populance understang and the scientific consensus about things are pretty far away.

I know there are some points (L1-5) and they use that to define what orbits what, but I lost when I tried to research it without any pre-existing knowledge on the topic. I usually read some scientific communication, but they usually over simplify things. It's hard to shed the pre-existing view, replace it with a more correct one, then do it again and again.

  • But how do we define what orbits what? On the scale from the Sun to Earth, the Moon orbits the Sun, just a litle more wobbly than the Earth's path, by litle I mean well below the error when we imagine the Erath's path as an elipse.

We can try to define if something goes around as orbiting, but If I pick two planet from our solar system one will goes around of the other, thechnically orbiting it? We can try to restricting the distance... but that is a problem as well, even worst idea that "nothing" comes in between: multiple moons? What about the moons' moons?

Ahhh, humans and their need to neatly categorize things...

  • Funny thing is, I would do that if there are no requirements, and the vibecode is unreadable. I would let the token-predictor create the requirements, after proof-reading and correcting it, I would create cooked-down list and run through a manager for approval, then rewrite it from scratch. My limited time and precious brain cells are too valuable to waste on reading and deciphering the half ton of sh!t an LLM produced.

If there are requirements (which are hardly applicable unfortunately) I would just rewrite the thing.
