  • if unprivileged software can ask the integrity verifier component which private key is used as the integrity root, or what rules does the verifier keep, then it can be used by commercial software (and web browsers) to decide whether they allow running themselves on your computer (or whether you are allowed to watch netflix, or log in to the bank's or the government's website)

  • offline apps can do those too, like fitotrack on fdroid

  • an arch user doesn't know that!!

so, that further information is the kernel's version number. it helps to keep some older versions. but you didn't set it up to include the version in the filename.

és egyébként bojler eladó. processzorra cserélném.

  • you can place this in /etc/fstab to make it automatic. look for the line where sda9 is defined. don't bother with lines that start with #. I think the 2nd to the last column configures this, but look it up in "man fstab" command and it will tell you what to write there

no idea why isn't that the default on your system. is this the rootfs, or another partition?

  • that will help to make the terminal slower!

  • good luck finding an email provider that stands above laws.

oh, that's google. but not to your benefit of course.

  • discord can be used without an account - until they kick you out demanding your phone number.

on matrix too you can have a guest user that works somewhat similarly, but most rooms don't have that enabled I think. I am not too surprised about that, no idea how could that be effectively moderated. it also needs client support but element web supports it

  • reasonably speaking, there are no smartglasses today that are capable of doing that locally, and even if there would, that does not guarantee in any way that it keeps the data locally. youre a walking surveillance camera, and like it or not, if people don't like that, that's their decision.

I'm surprised teslas and other such surveillance trucks are not vandalized more.

  • huge difference. smartphones are not recording the street most of the time, and they have permission controls.

  • http? really?

  • yeah maybe they don't even request the permission, so you can't grant it

  • this is not new, but its time for the hdmi forum to fade into irrelevance

  • we are all awaiting your suggestions on how to install and keep it updated on the phones of our friends and relatives

  • The one small issue I had was with the calls not appearing on my Android device when the phone is locked, but the call feature is still in beta so I guess down the line they'll improve it.

for that usually you need to enable a special permission in the system settings, something like "display on lock screen".while you are there, also disable "pause app activity when unused", for yourself and your friends too, otherwise android will not let them receive notifications if you message them.

  • who said they'll take away social media. the popular addictive services will remain

  • on windows too. any programs can read your history bookmarks, cookies, for chrome too

  • the perfect showcase about the security guarantees of E2EE. It's important, but it won't save you if "your" phone is programmed to snitch on you. same thing applies to screen reader AIs, and whatever you grant accessibility permissions or the assistant app role.

fun fact: on most googled phones the google assistant app is by default, without approval, set as the assistant app, and it has access to screen contents. I don't know if it has that access all the time, maybe only when you are baited to open it by long pressing the home button or trying to turn off your phone with the power button.

  • I understand that you must feel good hating on valve, but what you say makes no sense whatsoever. centralization? steam is popular but by far not the only option:

notably, the final version of Horses has been reviewed and approved for distribution across numerous other PC storefronts, including the Epic Games Store, GOG, the Humble Store, and Itch.io

if you want yo buy this game, you have many options for that

  • that won't work anymore, because today not even just to youth, but everyone the only thing that matters is convenience. their friends are not on there? they are not interested! maybe they would try it for fun? too bad, their phone does not allow installing it
