  • After a little experimenting I believe that what you're seeing are tracking attempts from websites using the in-app browser.

I didn't see a single tracking attempt when using Boost except when using the in-app browser.

If you click a link to http://amazon.com/ and it loads inside Boost then DuckDuckGo records the trackers that the Web page loads as coming from Boost.

I recommend instead using an external browser:

Settings > General > Default Browser > select "Open Externally"

  • If you share examples of the blocked tracking attempts we might be able to make sense of it. Without seeing it this just sounds like another unevidenced smear.

  • Didn't even need remote version control. All it required was essential files version controlled in the local folder.

  • They're focusing on platforms that allow them to censor discussion.

  • I think they opted not to make any cuts to NASA. It would be a conflict of interest if they did. In the sense that Elon Musk wants them to keep giving spacex lucrative contracts and they can't do that if they don't have piles of money

  • Henry Ford was the only american named in Mein Kampf. Hitler had a portrait of Ford in his office. Likewise Ford idolised his buddy Hitters

  • That's literally not the case. If you've purchased the app the ad logic isn't loaded, your porn habits aren't being tracked.

  • The thrill of flying a 747 in flight simulator quickly wears off when you realise large planes are really fucking dull.

After takeoff you turn on autopilot and there's fuck all to do for the next few hours apart from occasionally twisting the heading knob, or setting up the ILS approach for the landing.

It may actually liven the experience up if you have to deal with passenger complaints when you mistakenly over prescribe alcohol. You need to give the passengers enough to get them lethargic but not so much they reach the angry or depressed stage.

  • I guess the kind of innovation they're hoping to see from ubisoft is a WWII game from the axis perspective.

  • not necessarily the most misogynistic island in the world.

It's literally the least misogynistic place on earth.

The Isle of Man was the first place in the world where women could vote in a national election. https://www.tynwald.org.im/history/Women-Suffrage

  • From what I can see a wordpress plugin uses an icon you disagree with. You'd rather they use something else. Rather than approach them constructively you post your emotional response as an issue on their repo? What response are you expecting from the maintainers?

    Why all the militaristic language?

  • This really just shows how inefficient human communication is.

This could have been done with a single email:

    Hi,

I'm looking to book a wedding ceremony and reception at your hotel on Saturday 16th March.

Ideally the ceremony will be outside but may need alternative indoor accommodation in case of inclement weather.

The ceremony will have 75 guests, two of whom require wheelchair accessible spaces.

150 guests will attend the dinner, ideally seated on 15 tables of 10. Can you let us know your catering options?

300 guests will attend the even reception. Can you accommodate this?

    Thanks,

  • If you want to be taken seriously you should re-word your issue and the title.

    Be explicit about:

    • what icon you prefer,
    • include a graphical example
    • include examples where it's used to back up your claim that it's the "actual fediverse symbol "
    • highlight the issues with the current icon,
    • include an example of the icon you disagree with.

The issue you've linked is literally just a complaint with zero context.

It's amazing how little the UI has changed in 20 years. It looks a little dated but only in the sense that it's a functional piece of software rather than the trash people build today

  • When I posted that the comment I was replying to was sitting at -13

  • I guess I'm just legitimately confused about how to feel about it all.

The freedom of Lemmy and the fediverse let's people choose how to interact with it.

If a user is looking for a free to use , open source, ad-free experience then that's their choice.

If others are happy to pay for an app because they prefer the experience that app provides them they can choose to do so.

I also wouldn't spend time in my day coming into defend organizations that want to monetize on open source community projects either.

OP read that Boost may contain code used for tracking, then started spewing some conspiracy that "Boost is tracking your data for profiling and more!" without any proof or any actual research.

This isn't a case of defending some giant corporation, it's just stopping tedious drama before it spreads.

If you check OPs profile they've been spreading this for over a week. When I first saw this thread the masses were heavily upvoting the conspiracy and downvoting anyone disagreeing.

  • You're being downvoted for providing true information that disputes sensationalism. This place is truly fucking weird

  • This is a rather sensationalist headline.

Every so often software developers need to eat food and live beneath shelter.

The developer of Boost @rmayayo@lemmy.world provides a free version that's supported by ads, or you can purchase an ad free experience for a one time cost. That's been a standard business since forever.

There isn't any grand conspiracy here.
