  • My instance is piefed.blahaj.zone. I don't get any particular error message, not like the other user. It just simply says this:

The result is the same in All or Local or the Summit community itself.

Also I just tried signing out and adding an account again and now this is what I get on the login screen:

So either way I can't test switching between Hot or Active right now either.

  • Just to confirm what another user said here. Just got the notification this morning that the app updated, and now my PieFed account will no longer load anything. It works on desktop though. And this account and my old Lemmy Blåhaj account are working fine.

  • Sorry for yet another reply. I was going to reply from my PieFed account but I think the federation is a bit strange, it's a brand new account that I haven't even posted in yet.

Just wanted to say that it all works fine but similar to another post that I came across, pinned posts don't appear at the top of the community's feed while signed into my PieFed account.

Other than that, it's not a too serious issue to live with. Thank you for this great app. I basically can't go back to vanilla Lemmy now, which was why I disappeared without a phone.

  • Awesome! I look forward to it.

  • Oh wow that is awesome news! My old phone broke and took a while to replace, so I've been away from here for a few months. And last I was here, a Piefed app was still just being talked about it. And I tried searching a couple of terms like "piefed app" and it wasn't too helpful. So thanks very much for taking the time to read and give me this news!

  • Good point actually. It's been a while since I've watched these films and I remember this scene being emotional but I don't think I thought about it too hard beyond that. But you're right, he probably purposely says that in a language they'll understand, to be on their level and an honest leader.

  • Yeah that's fair. Although Reddit also has a lot more users, so the snarky people and the ones that can't just scroll past something they don't like stick out more.

So I think, in terms of conversations like this where the bottom line is there's just not enough users to have all the same communities as Reddit, people could maybe be a bit friendlier to noobs or towards communities they don't like.

Like, I remember when I first got here, I was still interested in discussing Reddit, so I was around the Reddit community for a bit. And I remember so many people around there just interacting in bad faith. Yes we know Reddit is shit, thanks, your take is isn't hot, it's years old.

It wasn't completely off putting but pretty fucking annoying. In general it's pretty fucking annoying.

But as you say, Reddit was the same, so it's not like it's a Lemmy specific issue. And probably can't be helped without iron fisted levels of moderation that no one wants.

  • Your title made me think of this picture.

  • In case anyone thought the "rockstar" being referred to was Joe Strummer, it's actually Gene Simmons.

  • Be nice because you want to be a nice person.

One way I've seen this put is don't be nice, be kind. Nice is performative and 'nice' people can be two faced because they'll be 'nice' to both a bully and the bully's victim.

Being kind is more about empathy. And if you have empathy, you won't tolerate bullies. It's far more genuine and not just a performance for whoever you're currently in the company of.

  • Also, with the way people are around here, a Facebook or Google centred community would just be smartasses shitting on Facebook and Google and anyone that tries to post about them.

I see this hasn't changed much since I was last here on Lemmy. Even this comment chain, I'm replying to, instead of suggesting nicely to OP to start a community and get something going here, it's snark and sarcasm. And I know that would put me off, if I was considering making a community before that.

  • One way I've seen this explained is that the bad sensory stuff is things that you can't control. Whereas the humming or chatting or music or whatever is something that you're in complete control of. It's noise that you want and expect, not noise that's disrupting you.

  • I'm trying to trust my intuition more in this regard. Sometimes you just get a kinda psychic bad smell or something from people. And I'm starting to notice that it usually ends up being proven right.

  • Thanks Dingus! Lol I love the username.

Honestly I'm trying not to be too optimistic and count on plans that might change or fall through because you never know. But also need to be far away from that hopeless feeling now, I'm done with it.

I hope that your dramatic changes are at least not negative. Maybe sometimes flipping the board and starting over can be good too.

  • I really apologize if this is already in this extensive roadmap and I've missed it, but something that would be pretty great, is being able to edit or move your bookmarks around for eg. dragging and dropping or something. After a little while it turns into a mess and it would be nice to categorise or have most used bookmarks all at the top. Being able to add seperators would be handy too.

I'm not complaining or demanding anything though, I love this app and I love that you're super active with it. And I can see there's a lot on your plate here lol.

Mostly though, I also want to ask, any plans for supporting PieFed some time in the future? It's yet another Lemmy clone / fork along the lines of mbin.

  • Oh wow and thank you for the link to the actual source!

  • Thank you!! I've missed it here too. Things are looking even more active here than last time I was around and I love to see it!

  • I was actually semi regularly posting tracks there a few months ago lol. Although my tastes can veer towards the heavier side I love that community. And I'll probably get back into posting there.

Apologies for the late response, nice to meet you too! 💜

  • This is a really cool idea for this community. Seems I've got some catching up to do.

  • For me personally it has to be certain rom hacks from before the era of decomps and creation kit style tools.

I was fairly active in the gen 3 Pokemon hacking scene on the pokecommunity forums back in the day. And hex editing and trial and error was one thing but real wizards were the ASM hackers that could completely out of the box stuff like adding in new move effects or character customisation functionality or day and night systems, to games that had none of these.

Those were actually the trailblazers that led to all the decomps we have today that have made it so easy.
