  • OMG I'm a dumbass. Updated main post so that other dumbass s may see how easy it was.

  • Yeah I may just have to back away for now and learn what Is and cd are from the tutorial @Clocks [She/They] posted. But thanks for taking the time, I do appreciate it.

  • Dang. No dice

    tar --format=ustar -cvf vbmeta.tar /home/mcready/Downloads/vgmeta.img

    Output:

tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
tar: /home/mcready/Downloads/vgmeta.img: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

  • That tutorial is very cool. I'll check it out.

  • I figured my issue is I wanted to find out where I write the path in the Tar command. (though responses I'm getting are showing I may be completely out of my depth with this)

    But for example:

The base command tar --format=ustar -cvf vbmeta.tar vbmeta.img

    Do I do this:

    tar --format=ustar -cvf vbmeta.tar /home/mcready/Downloads/vgmeta.img

    Or this?

    tar --/home/mcready/Downloads/vgmeta.img -cvf vbmeta.tar vbmeta.img

Apologies if I wasn't clear in my post, I edited it to show I am a TOTAL newb 😅

  • 😬 I've only done installs by the book with detailed instructions, I don't know how to go about all those steps.

  • yes.

  • Aha 😅 I'm afraid I don't know how to run a command while it's in a directory, I don't even know what to type to make that happen, or put a path in the right spot to select an image file.

  • Lineage OS @lemmy.ml

Lineage OS for Tab S7, any Linux instructions??

  • Lenovo @lemmy.world

Soft Fan Purr Sound? Lenovo Legion 5

  • I updated the main post with the solution! I have my 2 little apps and paired a pro controller and now it all seems to be working!

  • Alternative To was invaluable when I degoogled, not perfect though as it still lists some apps that invade and track even when you select the Privacy focused option in the search options, but it DOES give you somewhere to start from with all the info you need.

I'm currently running lineage on my phone, tablet and now working on a lineage streaming box to replace firestick. Good luck!

  • Lineage OS @lemmy.ml

Installing APKs on Lineage OS on RaspberryPi 4, Android TV Project (Solved, see update)

  • Went with the Pi4, still looking into a cooling solution. Updated original post to show my progress.

  • This was what I ended up doing, I updated the main post to show my progress

  • I did, it's still very slow, wanted to see what options were out there.

  • This is currently running slowly but functionally on Linux mint. I just want to free up some stuff with something a tad lighter. What SNES emulators are worth looking into?

  • Believe or not, it's running a web browser & obsidian now on Linux mint. It just takes it's time.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Super slow old Samsung laptop, needs Light weight distro, for SNES games mebbe?

  • So following up I have some options, all fairly affordable.

    1. Acquaintance has a **barely used Pi4 with the official case + power supply. **
    • 2GB RAM memory.
    • Uses micro-hdmi for display, they may have an adapter (if it can be found)
    • Need a micro SD.
    • Very cheap

2.On a local marketplace style website, Used Micro Linux PC is powered by a Raspberry Pi 5

    • Processor: Raspberry Pi 5
    • 4GB RAM Memory
    • Case: Custom Cube with RGB lighting
    • Operating System: Linux (pre-installed)
    • Connectivity: USB, Ethernet, HDMI
    • Custom Noctua Fans
    • Custom heatsink w/ rgb fan
    • 128gb Patriot NVME running at pcie 3.0
    • Affordable

    1. Large Marketplace website, Lenovo M910q Tiny Mini PC i5 7500T 16GB 240GB SSD Win11 Pro WiFi
    • Hard Drive Capacity 240 GB
    • Processor Intel Core i5-7500T
    • Graphics Processing Type Integrated/On-Board Graphics
    • RAM Size 16 GB
    • SSD Capacity 240GB
    • GPU Intel HD Graphics 630
    • Processor Speed 3.30 GHz
    • Connectivity HDMI, USB 3.0, DisplayPort, RJ-45
    • Operating System Windows 11 Pro ( I can put a linux os on this I'm assuming)
    • Features Built-in Bluetooth Adapter, Built-in Wi-Fi Adapter, Slim, Ultra-Slim
    • Affordable

I'm leaning towards Option 2. With my limited knowledge, Option 1 doesn't seem like enough and Option 3 seems like too much. I'm getting many different thoughts and opinions from alot of places, I am but a simpleton, trying to stop my TV from spying on me. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Update: Option 1 it is! Cheap enough that I can screw it up.

  • Hey, that's pretty cool!

  • Out of curiosity, what other uses does Pi4 have outside streaming?

  • Oooh! Thankyou! It's android so theoretically it should be able to get Smart tube. This is an advanced user guide but it certainly will help when I get to this point.

I'm still at the "So, Pi is a green circuit board?" part of my learning.
