  • I have to use it on my work computer. The most irritating thing for me is that it refuses to remember its previous monitor/location, and it restarts itself all the damn time doing updates or crashing, and then it pops up in the middle of a random monitor.

Otherwise, the functionality of it for communicating with coworkers is fine.

  • Good.

  • Yep. Cigarettes smell and taste terrible, but I love the smell of pipe tobacco and cigars. I enjoy smoking a cigar a few times a year. Though, the smoke only smells good in the moment. Once it permeates clothing, it reeks just as bad as cigarette smoke the next day.

  • You can connect the camera direct via USB and mount as storage without the app. Though it's only USB2 speeds lol. The app allows you to transfer over wifi which is dumb because it only lets you do that with jpgs. It won't transfer raw files wirelessly. I just pull the card and use a fast card reader.

I personally only use the app as a bluetooth remote shutter release.

But many people also use the app to auto geotag their photos, as not many canon cameras have built in GPS.

  • Dude. I needed to use this app the other day for the remote shutter function, and I was somewhere with no signal and no internet. Only to discover that the app had updated and now required me to create an account to use it. I was pissed.

  • My great grandmother got married at 14 and had my grandmother at 15.

  • I think many comments have already nailed it.

I would add that while I hate the use of LLMs to completely generate artwork, I don't have a problem with AI enhanced editing tools. For example, AI powered noise reduction for high ISO photography is very useful. It's not creating the content. Just helping fix a problem. Same with AI enhanced retouching to an extent. If the tech can improve and simplify the process of removing an errant power line, dust spec, or pimple in a photograph, then it's great. These use cases help streamline otherwise tedious bullshit work that photographers usually don't want to do.

I also think it's great hearing about the tech is improving scientific endeavors. Helping to spot cancers etc. As long as it is done ethically, these are great uses for it.

  • The only excuse for subscription model is when there is cloud storage/sync or server provided functions that are a core part of the software.

If I didn't rely heavily on the cloud storage and syncing part of Lightroom for editing photos seamlessly on desktop, mobile, and web, then I would already have dropped Adobe for Darktable and a pirated copy of Photoshop CS2 for when I need to print.

  • I too absolutely despise the whole format.

  • The picture alone tells me "do not eat" yikes.

  • I want a FOSS version of the original core use of Facebook. A place to keep up with IRL friends and aquaintences. Share photos and updates with everyone you know. Organize and send out event invites. Facebook groups.

Sure you can do that the old fashion way. But the convenience of those features is the only reason I still use Facebook. I assume its what keeps most of FB userbase around.

  • It's pretty normal. I took 6 years. I was having a good time.

  • I used to take a screenshot of the desktop, set it as the wallpaper. Then hide all the desktop icons and set the taskbar to auto hide.

  • So I'm guessing you didn't look that closely at what community you were posting this too?

  • Thanks! I really like the looks of what people put together with the minimalist tiling window managers. I have tried to play around with them a bit. But I just can't do it. I've got 30 years of floating window manager and mouse focused computing experience that makes tiling only managers rage inducing to actually use. Perhaps if I were a programmer, it would be more appealing. But as an artist/photographer, I will stick to what works for me.

  • Thanks! Yes it's Zen browser. Took me a bit to adjust to vertical tabs but now that I've got it customized I'm pretty sold on it.

  • It's probably advanced Excel users, mostly. Also, people who heavily use the collaboration features of MS Office.
