  • Lol, dude...no one is defending Nazis here. No one is defending what they say and do while they are masked. That's an entirely different discussion that you're trying to have.

    The question is about why these groups of people wear masks, and the answer is the same for both...to avoid backlash. Just because we see one group's actions as socially justified and the other's as unjustifiable (and rightly so) doesn't change the fact that they have the same reasons for hiding their identities.

    I too, think it's cowardly that these fascist groups hide behind masks. I too, think it's unacceptable for LEOs to wear masks. And I have no qualms about those who fight back against them wearing masks to protect themselves. That's the context you're looking for, but not what was being discussed here.

    It's the difference between asking:

    1. Why do these groups of people hide their identites?

    1. is it acceptable for these groups of people to hide their identites?

  • Even beyond that is the concept that heat is proportional to the speed of the molecules in the substance. So in this case, from Picard's frame of reference, it might not be hot at all.

    Then there's the whole idea of them being wrapped in a skin tight time dilation field (so does his hand even actually make contact?) and.... let's just chalk it up to artistic license from the writers.

  • I mean, I would argue that providing training to troops that are defending their own country from invasion is still very different than providing training to the aggresors of said conflict.

    I think this is just China setting up the expectation for reciprocal support if China gets into an armed conflict over Taiwan.

  • You can invest in international markets if you think the US market is doomed. Still not a reason not to save. The bigger problem is that so many people simply can't afford living expenses AND saving for retirement.

  • I'm sure the situation is dire, but I'm not sure it communicates an accurate picture by lumping in 21 year olds with people who've been in the workforce for decades.

    21 yr olds who are just entering the workforce or are in college aren't expected to have much, if any, retirement savings at that stage in their lives.

    A better picture would be to break it down by age group. Still not a pretty picture, I'm sure.
