  • AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, RTX 4080 Super 16GB, 64GB system RAM, and like 10TB split up over multiple drives both SSD and HDD. I don't remember what PSU I put in but it's an 850W Gold from Corsair. Case is a Fractal North XL in white with glass side panel.

    Usecase is 3D modelling primarily. I mostly work in Blender so getting a capable GPU was a must and the large amount of system RAM is nice when I'm working with textures in Substance or editing large files. I may upgrade my CPU as I move into more CPU-rendered tasks but right now I'm doing just fine.

    Fascists cannot and will not ever be contained in one place. They cannot be ignored, blocked, or otherwise disregarded. Stopping fascism requires extensive education, regulation, and eradication.

  • The article gets a few points right but it is yet another news outlet that missed the really big point: Trump threatened to invade Canada. There was a period of time when it was becoming increasingly clear that he was going to use fentanyl as a manufactured crisis and as context for a military occupation or at the very least placing military on the Canadian border. Nearly every time Trump talked about Canada he had to drop some sort of line where he mentioned annexing Canada.

    I'm not sure why this detail always slips through the cracks whenever news agencies talk about the souring Canada/US relations. Threatening war on your neighbour is a great way to destroy generations of built-up trust in an instant.

  • Almost every time I go out I see $5-7,000 ebikes being locked up with $20 Amazon folding locks and nothing else. In order to own a bike you should be forced to watch a video that shows how fast a cordless angle grinder can go through a cheap bike lock. Maybe it might change a few minds at least.

    Makes it easy to tell who the seasoned bike owners are and who are the ones that just bought their first expensive ebike. Another I've encountered is people saying "I'll just park it in a really visible spot". Doesn't matter. They will cut your lock even in the middle of a crowd in daylight because nobody will stop them.

  • The bizarre hostility of Reddit users is baffling. It's like they've never interacted with a human being in real life and have no idea how to process an opinion that isn't a 1:1 match of their own.

    You could say something like "I love waffles! :D" and get a response that is like "Oh, so you hate pancakes then? Wow, you didn't need to shit on every person that loves pancakes."

  • I stopped playing when I learned the DLC I paid for would be removed and no longer accessible. I already had some growing negative sentiment towards the game at that point but being outright ripped off was the last straw.

  • My mother abandoned her kids shortly after birth. I haven’t had contact with her for 20ish years. My sibling has kept loose contact and my mother has treated them like garbage and even robbed them on one occasion.

    So I guess the answer is: nothing.

  • That puts a lot of faith in the US population to (a) care, and (b) act on it.

    Because, as of the time of writing this, the average US citizen hasn't had their way of life impacted enough yet. Despite Trump taking a gigantic shit on the US, most people in the country are still living life relatively unimpeded at the moment.

    That is not going to be the case if the US has an active conflict on its own soil. They will be forced to care when drone strikes and resistance attacks start occurring in their cities and towns, when martial law is declared, when food and material shortages begin, and so on. Right now one of the biggest things the US population has to worry about are tariffs. If war is declared on Canada then they will have to worry about tariffs, sanctions, and the loss of one of their largest agricultural and energy suppliers. The US gets nearly all of its potash from Canada.

    On top of all that, the instability and distraction in the US would almost certainly embolden other groups that see opportunity, such as the Mexican cartels and the Chinese government. Like words cannot even begin to describe how much of a fustercluck it would be.

  • I remember reading a few articles detailing how a military incursion into Canada would likely go.

    tl;dr is that Canada's military would likely surrender immediately and then go underground to assist in resistance efforts. The Canada/US border is one of the longest unprotected land borders in the world and many cities along the border are right beside each other. The US would take immediate soft control but would be fighting fierce resistance coast-to-coast for decades that would frequently spill across the border and result in attacks on their own cities and facilities. Not to mention an assault on Canada is very unpopular with US citizens and troops and all of the states that border Canada will refuse to turn into battlegrounds. A lot of US citizens have family and friends in Canada and the militaries of the 2 countries have close bonds from working together for generations. If any countries came to Canada's aid with their own military force then it would get even uglier.

    The immense economic strain of holding Canada against the resistance coupled with the internal unrest and inevitable worldwide sanctions placed on the US would cause complete economic collapse and eventual civil conflict. The USA, as the singular entity we know of today, would be destroyed.
