  • Fascinating. That shouldn’t be possible, but obviously this does raise doubts.

Even if there is a way for the switches to physically fail, like maybe the spring can fail to pull the switch down leaving it able move over the detent, it still seems like it would be absurdly unlikely for TWO switches to fail on the same flight, and one flip to cutoff right after the other, with a timing gap easily accounted for by a pilot turning one off after the other. My money is still, sadly, on intentional action (or possibly really awful mistake, since when one pilot asked why he put the switches in cutoff the other pilot did say that he hadn’t).

  • It's easier to just admit you don't know anything about guns, and neither do the folks writing this legislation.

So why don’t the people who DO know about guns chime in?

All I ever see in these discussions is people talking shit about legislation and why it’s targeting the wrong things. So what should it target? Because I’m sick of mass casualty shootings. Fucking help if you know so much.

  • Okay, you tell me: why is a gun clearly designed for killing people so damn good at killing people?

  • I linked an article with people who know what they’re talking about. I never pretended to be educated on firearms.

  • What makes an assault style weapon more deadly than a non assault style weapon?

    Muzzle velocity.

Round exits the barrel on an AR-15 at over 3000 feet per second. It contains an enormous amount of energy that obliterates the human body.

  • These are used differently. It’s a way to make something flexible become rigid. Like tent poles that become flexible when you want to put the tent away or rigid when you want to put the tent up.

  • Woof. That’s two planes brought down by almost certainly intentional fuel cutoff by a pilot in a relatively short time. This 737 and the Air India 787.

  • This is why I now bring an Apple TV on trips where I’m going to want to watch anything. Just plug that into the host/hotel TV, connect to the WiFi, and go.

  • In the Year of Our Lord J-Town 2026, a hundred dollars doesn’t seem bad at all for a premium controller. Xbox Elite is $150-$200 depending on “sale” price, DualSense Edge is $200. Hell, a pair of regular-ass JoyCons for the Switch 2 is $100.

  • That’s what distributed computing is, after all. Like Folding@Home.

  • Not just rodents, but their feces, IIRC. Which are very small and might not be immediately noticed if not in the open.

  • Join Team Bidet today!

  • Weird. I’ve not yet seen this on my Teams. It would piss me off if I did, but then again Teams pisses me off all the time anyway.

  • Also, are you going to deny the role Valve has played in helping propel Linux toward mainstream desktop use? They’ve dramatically changed the game (pun intended) in terms of compatibility, and everyone gets to benefit. That’s a good thing, right?

  • They’re not beholden to shareholders concerned with nothing more than the near-future value of stock. So they’re more likely to actually give a shit about their long-term viability, the value of their product, and the opinion of their customers, rather than the whims of Wall Street.

  • At least it’s not a US public company so it’s not just chasing next quarter.

  • Knights of the Old Republic, or KotOR 2.

  • I knew someone was going to say this. 😂

Yeah, folding phones are cool! They combine the use case of a small tablet and the portability of a smartphone. But that challenges Apple’s own product line. Why buy an iPad and an iPhone if buying one product solves both use cases?

But imagine if Apple had thought that way in 2007. “Why put music on the iPhone, people might not buy iPods then!”
