  • Another data point yesterday was University of Miami (Ohio) poll of Ohio showing Trump+3 in Ohio. It's not as extreme a swing as the Selzer Iowa poll but it's a significant shift from 2016, 2020 and much of the polling this cycle.

So while the Selzer poll is out on a bit of an island, the Miami-Ohio poll certainly shows a similar swing.

I'm inclined towards pessimism, but it's hard not to feel there's some significant herding happening, and that the averages are being affected by it as well as some low quality pollsters flooding the data with polls

  • Translation: all the times Tesla has vowed that all of its vehicles would soon be capable of fully driving themselves may have been a convenient act of salesmanship that ultimately turned out not to be true."

There's a word for that already. Lied. They/He lied.

No need for 30 words when 2 will do.

    They Lied.

  • I'd argue a lot of our current problems are directly descended from Nixon being pardoned and facing 0 consequences for his crimes.

  • Are you sure you're not thinking of Jolee from Kotor 1 ?

  • I've been using Boost. It has user tags, instance blocking which can even be extended to comments from blocked instances. Search is kinda eh, and sometimes gifs from less common sites won't load, but overall I'm happy with the experience.

Previously I used Connect. It was pretty good. Had similar features as Boost, but I found more issues loading content with Connect. Admittedly that was about a year ago so things may have improved, but I haven't gone back to check.

  • Are there any colorized versions, either video or images? Might make for some compelling side by sides.

  • The comp for an older generation is cars. Cars saw similar growth and adoption in the 50s-80s. And they had similar growing pains, reliability and maintenance issues were common place. So being able to perform maintenance and having an understanding of how they work was far more wide spread than just hobbyist and professionals.

As cars advanced the need to perform field maintenance and ad hoc repairs became less required so future generations (on average) became less knowledgeable and skilled at various car repair (and modification) activities, because cars just work now so there's really no need to worry about learning how to fix minor issues, because they're just not a common problem.

  • "local" has a bizarre definition. Iowa is blacked out of Twins, Brewers, Royals, Cubs, White Sox and Cardinals games. None of which are carried locally.

  • I think it's a poor phrasing. A more accurate statement would have been, "We have not been able to confirm a motive at this time" or similar. Basically leaving room for the idea that we all more or less know what the motive was, while acknowledging that's it has not (yet) been proven conclusively.

  • In-N-Out is definitely overrated. Their burgers are fine, maybe even good, but the fries are fucking trash. You can't be a restaurant with 2 things on the menu and have one of them be awful.

  • My name is Barf. I'm a mawg. Half man. Half dog. I'm my own best friend.

  • I think you're off by a factor of 10. 650k out of 330 million is about 1 in 500. It's still way too many people, don't get me wrong, just wanted to clarify.

  • They’re terminally online

It's funny you say that. I have them tagged exactly as that after some comment thread they were in. Since I tagged them, it's unbelievable how often posts and comments from them show up in my feed

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What movies, books or tv shows are meant to spoof/parody a particular genre while actually being a great example of the genre?
