  • I know you're joking, but I don't get people who unironically think like this. Like whats preventing a woman from eating lots of meat and losing money on sports betting? Like what physical barrier prevents them from doing that? None.

    So how could that define manhood?

  • Just waiting for the day when someone can explain to me what makes a man a man without describing skills, qualities, and actions that anyone can do regardless of gender.

    And don't tell me it's "have a penis", because if that were true then effeminate men wouldn't be insulted all the time for not being "real" men, and there wouldn't be toxic masculinity.

  • Algorithmic social media just ruins everything. Once twitter and facebook started pulling out all the stops to keep us on their sites instead of letting us use them as a starting point to connect and/or simply augment our existing irl relationships.

  • Yeah I think a lot of Chibnals detractors are in for a rude awakening. Sure, you can say it wasn't woke for RTD1 but that's nostalgia considering he:

    • parodied Tony Blair with John Simms master
    • created an out and proud pansexual in Harkness
    • portrayed the Doctor as ambiguous sexually, accepting advances from Jack and Lynda (?) In parting of ways
    • the slitheen two-parter being commentary on the war on terror and false claims of WMDs

    I think that in the time since 2010, RTDs writing experience and the general increase in right wing radicalisation since 2015 are combining to create these decisions like able bodied Davros or 14 regenerating clothes

  • It wouldn't be so bad if classic who was consistently paced. The black and white episodes had some real bangers that I was engaged for the fill 22 minutes, but a lot were just slogs.

    In principle I do believe a good story can carry anything - visuals are secondary in a compelling plot.
