  • They said the reason they started playing was a UB set. I'm also new to paper magic. Final Fantasy is what got me started. Clearly UB works for getting new players interested. Should there be as many UB sets as in universe? No, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any or they don't attract new players.

  • An overall good article marred by the gate keeping bullshit. There are a ton of ways to play magic, and just because they are not part of the competitive scene does not make them "not real magic."

I honestly don't even think universes beyond is the problem in and of itself. The problem is the high number of sets released per year and the fact that too many of them are universes beyond and in standard. If they did 1 or 2 UB items and kept them to commander decks, secret lairs, or one UB set per year it would leave room for the universes within to shine. Hasbro would never though.

FWIW, the current set is universes within (Secrets of Strixhaven) and is really fun. Of course, the TMNT set before it was also really fun, but they were way too close together.

  • Just because you don't like a thing does not mean other people don't like it. Instead if "CDs are dumb," try "CDs aren't my thing, but MP3s are great." No reason to be a jerk about a thing outside your interests

  • 2 things:

    1. You have no idea how much a PS6 is going to cost. RAM and storage prices also have an effect on console prices

    2. They were talking about upgrading individual components incrementally. Something that is easy and far less expensive that upgrading the whole machine. Consoles don't have that option

  • Get involved with your local community. Donate when you can, spend your time when you can.

  • Oh for sure, but 2 hub motors, a battery, a BMS, the disc brakes, and the handcart itself are probably going to run almost as much or more than as a full e-bike with a trailer. That does not include the time and knowledge to assemble it. Great tool, and great for some parts of the world. Just not a universal solution

  • Yeah, I live in Seattle. This would not work here as built. Disc brakes and an electric motor for hills would probably be a minimum requirement. That adds a lot of expense and engineering, and also means an e-bike and trailer are probably cheaper.

  • "Just" is not the word I would use for non-consensual nudes

  • This becoming true again because of waves hand at everything going on but trend wise this has not been true for the last few years. It is also not true outside the US.

  • Seriously! So many sounds for just two people

  • Because they’re not disruptive. At all.

They disrupt traffic a lot. Especially in the US where we are reliant on cars so much. That is pretty huge. Parades are disruptive in the same way.

despite being not disruptive they make people feel like they’ve “done their part,”

Maybe, but all protests have this issue. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do them

Americans’ pain tolerance is disgustingly low for people staring down fascism while running and manning the world’s deadliest, evilest war machine.

I don't think this is the case, but this makes it sound like you don't know what it means to live paycheck to paycheck, which is pretty bad anywhere but very bad in the US. You can't necessarily afford to take time off, and if you call out you could loose your job and subsequently your health insurance. That could be life or death for a lot of folks The US is fucked in a lot of ways, but especially this one.

here’s a widespread trend of highly underestimating the pain and effort it’d take to drag Trump out of power

This is never going to happen short of prolonged and bloody civil war. I think we may see that unless Trump dies in office (of natural causes, assassination will just make him a martyr). The best we can hope for outside of full empire collapse is pushing out the shitty dems and getting actual progressives/leftists in office.

Ultimately I don't think these protests are doing a lot, but they are not doing nothing either. And they certainly aren't hurting anything. The normies that go to these were not going to organize outside of them, and maybe (very maybe) these protest help them see what collective action can do.

  • On a basic level, weekends are when the most people can afford to show up. And I mean that monetarily. The sheer number if people living paycheck to paycheck without much PTO would mean fewer showing up.

On a less basic level, why are you against weekend protests? Because they are less disruptive?

  • Plus most classical paintings are public domain. If you want to be lazy but still have good art just put some of those in

  • Miss me with that shit. First off, no need for the "fat asses" jib. You can express the same opinion without it. Second, open civil war is going to be bloody, and mostly for already marginalized people. I believe it will happen, but don't wish it on people. It is going to be devastating to a whole hell of a lot of people.

  • That is awesome!

  • Looks neat! Cool that the community is keeping it going. How do folks feel about printing your own? That is how netrunner is still going to this day
