  • This is interesting because I always feel like I adapt when I move and become a version of myself that does fit in.

I grew up a city boy.

Moved to the country and began wearing outdoor gear and rock climbing until I was indistinguishable from my neighbors.

Moved to a hippy town and started smoking weed in tie dye until I was indistinguishable from my neighbors.

Moved to NYC and started wearing a hat and an overcoat until I was indistinguishable from my neighbors.

And now I’m on the border of Mexico and don’t look anything like my neighbors, but apparently I’ve picked up enough Spanglish that people have still started asking me what region of Mexico my family is from (none).

I’ve retained little elements from each phase of my life and carried them over into the next, but every level also stands out as a distinct hybridized version of myself that I became for a time. In turn, it helped me discover new parts of myself that I would not have found if I hadn’t changed how I was living to fit my environment.

So, if you feel like you don’t fit in, maybe try to adapt to your surroundings so it is a little easier for people to meet you in the middle culturally.

  • We are the same, you and I.

  • Honestly, I have a weird feeling that this might be genuine. No need to sleep with the dude if OP doesn’t feel it, but it could be a cool opportunity to be a mentor and a friend to a younger queer dude if they get along.

Either way, meet in public and inform a friend.

  • Thank you! I’ve been clean for 17 years, but had a minor craving as recently as two weeks ago. It’s a hard thing to forget about, but I like my life too much to fuck it up again.

  • The removal of pain for a prolonged period of time makes you very weak to it when you come off the drugs. Even the weight of a sheet or the feeling of your teeth touching each other can be unbearable. It can take a long time for your body to get back to normal, but it does eventually happen.

  • Former heroin addict here.

The one thing we all have in common is that we are in some kind of pain that we are trying to escape—it is a painkiller after all. What people don’t know when they start is that it also kills all feelings of remorse or decency because you can’t feel the pain of embarrassment or social expectations. It is a sneaky high that doesn’t hook you at first, and the moment you wake up sick, you’re already on the wagon.

I’m sorry your friend wound up doing that, and I’m sorry for how it affected you. I hope you get to the point where you can integrate the awareness that addicts of hard drugs are victims of a chemical that is changing their entire perception of reality sometimes, and they often don’t understand what is really going on until the consequences become severe. I hope your friend gets the help they need to see what is happening to them and how to stop the damage.

  • Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, dismissed Trump’s comments in a statement, saying, “The Wall Street Journal should learn to take a joke, however, the President’s pardon power is absolute.”

    It’s just a joke, bro! Unless…

  • And yet it still stands!

  • Fear.

  • Idk, swelling the weight of a bag is a dick move and I think it should be punished harshly. /s

  • I’m generally against waving the flag of another nation at a protest. Nothing wrong with protesting about those issues—your intention about foreign affairs is just usually a lot clearer with a sign instead of a flag.

  • Yes, One Battle After Another. The final chase especially is made for the big screen in a pleasantly old fashioned way. No 3D bullshit, just exceptional cinematography that looks even better when it’s huge.
