  • I still can't get over the dude's name. I swear this reality is someone else's comic book.

  • I would reckon it's my comments about China. If you haven't noticed on most of Lemmy any statements about china that aren't positively raving are immediately met with downvotes. That said my comments aren't even negative. China's east west program, tight control of their internet, and companies is well known and arguably quite beneficial for them.

You also make good points, we're in a new gilded age but instead of oil tycoons it's tech magnates. A lot of these things have been seen for a long time but they sure seem to be coming to a head currently. Like one could have just seen the behavior kids had with myspace and just extrapolated that out. It's a bit like climate change in that sense, aka very apparent for a long time to anyone who was paying attention. There's nothing new going on but it seems we've about hit a critical mass.

All the while the same games are still being played in nearly every other industry but maybe it's not our time to be enraged by them yet, one thing at a time as the public's collective attention span is famously short.

  • I've known families who've been more mobile than myself, but you're right, definitely not average. I used to have a lot more stuff but it gets heavy on the mind.

  • Nah not yet, gotta edge a little more.

  • Not where I live. Few people even have smartphones and there's no garbage trucks.

  • I mean the only way out of it now that's beneficial to the US is to slowly step away and not make any concessions or otherwise blockade the straight themselves until terms agreeable to them are offered.

  • To temporarily drop into a philosophical debate, all humans are doing is seemingly action potentials in neurons which form models and do predictions not too dissimilar but a lot better and of course self aware (I'm assuming other people are self aware)

That said I'm surprised current models are even as good as they are, most people take the progress since 2017 for granted, then again the AI hype train has over promised like mad and when the thing works it can be flipping amazing, it's just not consistently that good and failures are unpredictable. I honestly didn't think we would be here until 2050 to 2080.

Alright philosophy aside, humans are easier to reason with so far, particularly when questioning.

  • That's always been the plan. Gotta cash in on that sweet sweet Venezuelan oil sooner than later. Helps when a whole bunch of ships start rerouting their way there.

  • Just because something was a joke doesn't mean it isn't serious. Some of the best comedy is about really serious subject matter or comes out of really serious moments, surgeons humor or trench humor.

  • True but usually when they go in and look at it it all snaps back into their mind. . . Usually.

  • My experience thus far is not all sessions even with the same AI are equal. There's still that issue of erroneous errors and of course differing levels of quality of output each and every time it's asked to do something. Like sometimes it's bang on amazing and other times it's straight up gaslighting you over statements that are blatantly false.

  • The most lucrative would be dogs, cats, or horses.

  • Support what you use. It's best to be involved

  • Rule of thumb is two days or two poops, that's the time to shower.

  • Yeah he's had a very neutral take on it. Like it's a thing and it does good work some of the time but ultimately code not written by a person is harder to maintain. At least when a person writes code they typically have a strong understanding of what they wrote and can accurately communicate that to others.

  • I guess because of the choices I've made that's not really been the case personally. Usually I get my deposits back in full or nearly in full. I've never hired movers or rented a truck so far. I guess if I needed I would get a trailer and sell it when I'm done with it. As for labor, there's always cheap labor around. Two dudes who want $50 each is probably enough if I couldn't physically move my stuff but irl I would probably have my family help.

  • That's a lot. I just break down my stuff and pack in my truck. Last time I moved in the states it was a security deposit and first months rent so like $1800 (or $500 more than I was going to pay anyways in rent) and I guess gas. If needed I would buy and sell a trailer for like $400 so it would work out to $0 after being sold. My furniture is all very light and breaks down or otherwise can be easily moved by my little metal dolly and held with my straps. If I needed labor I could probably find two guys for $50 each for like those few hours, lunch included of course. It's really not much stuff.

  • I live in east Africa and for some reason people here have a focus on western slave trade and seem to mostly ignore middle eastern slave trade that's still active to this day. There's a strong anti-west focus and somehow bad things done by anyone else mostly gets ignored or if it is brought up then the conversation quickly shifts to what western powers have done. It's almost as if it can't be spoken about.

  • You're better off getting better friends. Let them fade out of your life.
