  • Agree but if there isn't another option what else can they do

  • Haha I didn't know that, that's sorts funny, rip to them

  • Mmmm not true on a technical level. It could spit out verbatium code that was in the training data but that isn't inherently how they work, they aren't just copy paste indexes.

  • The .com bubble was a bubble and look where we are now, no shit ai is a bubble but under that is still a very powerful tool that isn't going away.

I wouldn't support those software companies either, because like I keep saying llms are a tool that should be used correctly, for coding that means being used by a competent programer as an assistant not a replacement.

  • Team Fortress 2

  • Fake meat is expensive because greedy capitalists know they can charge more for it, simple as that.

  • Most positive comments about llms are downvoted on Lemmy, especially on the "fuck ai" page. It's not unexpected. I'm not brainwashed in the slightest, I don't love or praise llms but I understand what they are good at and what they aren't good at. I bet a large portion of all software that's been updated in the past year or two has generated code already, disclosed or not.

I am just seeing reality how it is, unlike you. Like it or not llms are a tool that are used by many and will continue to be adopted. Oh and most normal people are pretty brainwashed by the LLM craze and like "Ai", you are on Lemmy which is full of abnormal people, pretty much nobody here is a "normal" person.

I think it's quite sad and cringe how normal people around me at work and In my personal life use llms improperly and have generated profile pictures on slack.

You will use generated code all day everyday brother, you can't stop it. Sorry.

  • Until the West stops restricting lithography machines, or China develops their own advanced lithography machines, we likely won't see Chinese GPUs for sale in our markets.

I'm personally hoping China has a breakthrough on lithography machines to break ASML's monopoly and fuck over all these extremely rich companies, but we're not going to see anything like that happen for 10 plus years.

But in 10 years, oh boy, we're gonna have so much cheaper China tech, it'll be awesome.

  • Just toggling desktop mode on your mobile phone should still work. I use that trick all the time to get around the, you must download the app to view age-restricted posts on mobile. Literally, if you just turn on desktop mode, you can skip past the prompt instead of downloading the app.

  • It will continue to happen and every piece of software you use will contain generated code in the next decade.

  • Most contractors or companies providing services related to home maintenance/improvement. I guess it's not really a 'scam' but you are getting charged 10x+ the cost to do whatever when you could probably do it yourself with some research and persistence.

  • I don't think any instance should block any instance. Individual users are free to block users and spaces they don't like, such as hexbear if you don't like hearing different opinions, but again it's stupid and childish for a server admin to defederate for any reason other than actual abuse.

I agree with this main post though, about dealing with .world

  • Poor hexbear and ml users can't even speak the truth out here without down clicks, gotta get the .ca to post for them so it gets up clicks. Preach brother!

  • Just capitalist being capitalists. Amazon still breaks volume records every year and demand has not slumped. Just gotta try and make the company even more profitable every year somehow.

  • This is fine with me. Copyright is stupid and textbook companies are ass. Even if you don't like LLMs, copyright is still ass.

  • appreciate the explanation good to see that it isn't actually purely marketing, in my opinion, and they try to keep the old meaning coherent with these more advanced generations

  • Technology advancements like this are going to keep on marching along no matter the price of the end good. There is massive demand for better and better silicone and that doesn't look like it's going to change pretty much ever, at least not in our lifetimes.

Also, every time you see these companies announcing new chips with smaller transistors, that means they built an entire new fab to produce these chips. The old fabs generally still stay operating if there is demand, so this does in fact increase capacity overall
