Right, and so just to step past the obtuseness and sticking to a fact:
Rimu is the developer of Piefed.
If we're at the point it is important to clarify "person v software", the person developer can be associated with the developed software.
And if this is, in fact, a call to compartmentalize and separate devs from software, and furthermore from how they operate their instances... Yes, that would be a nice change for Lemmy and Piefed alike for discourse on this matter.
Will it happen? Well, developers and instance admins can continue crashing out, or... maybe stop.
I guess then if the person decided to block OP after replying to OP, they could effectively lock in their statement without rebuttal from the person they block. Seems... odd.
Especially here since it's between two users from the same instance but in a lemmy community. So there could be something going on with compatibility there?
I was shared an article about reddit shitting the bed (API thing) that mentioned ActivityPub and Lemmy, so I checked it out on a whim. Been around since.
I got interested and checked and it's just one community on piefed social. My comments are viewable on my instance and the instance of the user I reply to, but only that comment and only in that one community. If I view my user comments from any other instance, piefed or lemmy, those comments do not exist.
So I can't rule out that userblock scenario, but it is interesting that my comments effectively become a public facing DM.
I am fairly certain I'm ghosted from certain communities on piefed.social, but I don't know how encompassing that is. So I don't know if anyone on that instance can actually see what I write ever, or not, or if it's just more targeted on a community/user blocklist level.
In my case at the time it was just an effect of being poor. At least one scenario I had a legal case, but I couldn't afford the costs to bring it forth and it would cost more in legal fees than the case was worth. I simply didn't have the time or resources, especially since I had to focus on moving and getting security deposits together so as to not be homeless.
The protections are there, they just are not for certain economic classes since there's an exploitable time window to operate within.
Same. It's a good thing I pay hundreds less per month on a mortgage instead of the going rent rate, which enables me to have savings in the first place. Not being forced to move every year and incur the equivalent costs of an appliance or two also helps.
Technically this is from a MeanwhileOnGrad post, so the baseline expectation is that there's some involvement of transphobia, genocide support, genocide denial, misogyny, racism, or prejudice.
Posting theories about users in MWoG is usually enough for me. I only make comments there because it is on my Local feed and, as much as I hate to say it, goat leaves up criticism so long as it isn't an alt or sock puppet. He at least purged the mods that would ban and delete comments because in the end, goat is a drama queen that wants to see and read every morsel.
That said, db0 defederating from feddit.org seems to have been the correct choice, or at least warranted given the ongoing crashout over anti-Zionist stances in the Fediverse.
Hopefully, those 'insulating layers' will be an effective measure to how the code is approached vs the instance is handled.
