  • Same here 🥲

  • Same moment of realization for me too...

I think I'd agree that asking for help would be a skill. In my opinion, it takes courage to put yourself out there and face all the shitty people that there may be and all the(ir) criticisms. On another note to that, getting help, getting dependant on that help, then what if it goes away? What next?

This i think is one of the things I struggle with in regards to asking for help. It's terrifying.

Just wanted to get my thoughts out. Sorry if it's not appropriate here.

  • Yeah, that was the same thing with me and my windows machines for years (i think I remember it working properly at one point though). I heard they recently fixed it though.

  • Hmmm... I have a Samsung (and using the default phone app), and it doesn't do that. Maybe only when using Google phone app?

  • The thing with winget, i believe, I that when installing non-MS store programs, you still have to go through the program's installer.

Whereas you don't need to look at an installer with apt or similar

  • I second this sentiment. I would love to know more!

  • From experience (this was a few years ago, but still holds up even today), yes. The GUI installer is very easy to use (there's lots of visual stuff to). The one thing that the installer does better that the Debian installer, in my opinion, is partitioning (there's more visual aids (a slider you can move around, I believe) (a disclaimer: this is basedoff of materials that i read online, not any personal experience)).

If you want images and stuff, you can always look up 'Calamares installer' (which I believe is the installer Mint uses)

Wish you the best of luck on your linux journey!

    E: disclaimer

  • 100x this.

I don't know about everyone, but I find that these types of conversations can be stimulating/interesting

  • he would be in jail if he didn't get the idea to run for president a second time.

Let's just hope that we see the whole trials thing re-emerge once he is done, that has the best chances of locking him up (dare I say 100% ?). Though I do feel that he deserves worse, whatever that may be.

  • mostly why i've increasingly turned to forums like this for that kind of stuff (if i've ever needed). I think that it's in part to a new AI suggestions thing that Google implemented. It also does the videos too i believe. Still a shame it's happening though. :(

I've also seen some channels I loosely follow start using/ producing AI content unfortunately. All this AI slop on YT has greatly turned me off the platform as of late.

  • Yea, would've canceled prime if not for the rapid delivery. I do notice that the delivery times have stretched out to 2 days.

can't comment on Prime video, since i don't use it much, but i don think the ads in a paid service is a pretty scummy thing to do.

The main driving force for me to cancel is mostly the way they treat their workers, but the sad thing is that it seems that dependency on amazon is gone up nowadays, with most malls/ stores closing (Fry's Electronics is one that I can name off the top of my head)

  • Thanks for the reply! I found it very informative, also with regards to the blocking.

I do think it's stupid that there's no complete block feature in Lemmy. Also just found out that it apparently has a slower development speed compared to PieFed (with regards to features). This, and the founders of lemmy, are some factors making me consider switching to PieFed. I also heard that there were more features, but also stability concerns. Also most of those extra features are not there on mobile clients yet i believe.

I also checked, and Lemmy login does not work on PieFed.

  • do you still have to block the other two (hexbear and the other one, can't remember the name rn.)? I have .ml blocked, but I thought the other 2 got de-federated so blocking them wouldn't be necessary?

  • I find that KeePassXC works great for if you don't mind not being able to sync passwords that easily. You don't have to pay a subscription for it.

  • Zero rn, but might be getting Amazon Prime soon.

  • Same here. AI slop has turned me (and my brother) off of YouTube shorts. Like 80-90% of the content is AI, and you have to play detective for most of them (to find out it's AI generated)

  • True. But at the very least, get a dongle or wired earphones that directly connect to the phone (usb-c earphones exist, not sure about lighting connector). They are also not too expensive, compared to wireless earphones.

  • Used Saily while on vacation. Loved it. Switched on thee same day (where I was going there is a 3 day wait on SIM activation I believe), and the connection was pretty good.
