  • He gives us free comics, the ads are static (non-tracking, no malware), and he's only advertising his own stuff. I'd be thrilled if everybody got on board with this format instead of what we currently have.

  • Matt Gaetz?

  • Now throw in a nuclear power plant for good measure.

  • iliterally

  • I mean... isn't this kinda what's actually happening? It has to be tough to be an Onion writer these days. They should just take a hard tack into serious journalism and see how long it takes for anyone to notice.

  • Right. And that somethingElse is probably not Unix

  • So what you're saying is it's not Linux, it's somethingElse/Linux ?

  • Add "hackable" to that list and I'm on board. Sadly, it's more likely to be "bootloader-locked" instead. :/

  • This is true, but the scale goes both ways. For every dollar of public education you get $1+X out. This has been true for the vast majority of public education programs for at least the past half century. So public education is literally a good investment. I’ve never gone looking for data on ICE, but I’d bet good money that for every dollar in there’s a net loss.

  • 'soon' is a relative term – it'll still take a few million years

  • In the late 1990s I wrote an Alias|Wavefront plugin called greeble that built a bump field + height field from texture so artists could paint greebles on by hand, so whether or not that’s the proper way to do it, it’s been a texture thing for a long time.

  • For a more civilized age.

  • perl -e '$_=q|Tnpljoh!ljmmt"|;s/(.)/chr(ord($1)-1)/eg;print'

  • “Turn into” ?

  • How dare the Chinese AI companies copy what the US AI companies had rightfully stolen.

  • Just as the “neutral/midwest dialect” tempered a lot of regional accents with the emergence of national broadcast tv and radio, using the same AI tools might cause us to lose some of our regionally/age specific idioms/etc language and give rise to an “AI dialect”. I haven’t gone looking for any hard evidence of this happening yet but Ada Palmer and Bruce Schneier have an interesting thought piece on the subject.

  • This feels like halfway between lemmy and nostr. I wonder about the utility of it tho? federated content gets duplicated everywhere and is unencrypted by nature (except for DMs on some platforms) so aside from proof of authenticity/ownership I don’t see what this approach gets you?

  • In another comment pmjv says this one is about Mr mobilek, so it’s definitely in-universe

  • Yes, yes they are.
