  • Who pays the bills for these media companies? It’s not the masses who ingest their content mostly for free. It’s the advertisers that get to push their content along with the media content that keep the presses going, websites managed, production costs cleared.

  • Thank you for the enlightening critique.

  • Best I can do is $125k and $300k in company stock over 4 years

  • Our company has been looking for a brilliant innovator like you, how would you like to apply for a new position called professional cool sounding tech peddler, I mean director of creative technology?

  • Seems like another “hey, what if we used LLMs for this” scenarios. It might be more effective, but exactly how many more resources are being used to make it do the same work as current compression algorithms? Effective doesn’t mean efficient and I think for lossless applications efficient is truly more important.

  • It’s like people are beginning to realize they shouldn’t have to pay for an operating system just so they can use their hardware

  • This is why I’m very happy with Valve’s efforts to port Windows functionality to Linux/GNU kernel. The clock is ticking for my main desktop to become a Linux desktop, my only holdouts are games and some of my music production plugins. I could probably abandon some if I had to honestly.

  • Sure would be nice if they cracked down on all the companies that have gobbled everything up and made market competition difficult. Not really sure why Apple Pay is the thing they choose to spend resources on when there are plenty of other issues to address

  • I never thought they would avert this shutdown, this is so unprecedented. Never in American history has there been an imminent shutdown raged about for weeks and then suddenly everyone decided that a shutdown is bad and came together to avert a shutdown. Wow, this is amazing. /s

  • I don’t like the fact that bad history and terrible political views are considered American culture, but I guess I can’t exactly blame anyone for seeing it that way.

  • Yes, let me reiterate for OP that archinstall is how you want to start your arch setup. The tutorial will guide you down the manual path to setup which is a lot more laborious and doesn’t always work the way you hope. The built-in script will do all of the manual setup tasks for you.

  • Just write it in Rust, it will be faster than the C/C++ equivalent /s

  • Enshittification is the middle name of AI

  • Ah yes, another one off my bucket list:

    743. Red XIII riding a chocobo

  • I’m not sure I was disagreeing with you in the previous statement. I haven’t thrown my shoes I’ve only put hundreds of miles on yet.

My point is that it isn’t exactly easy to find good shoes unless you invest a lot of money into them, especially in North America since we’re specifying locales. Most stores, even specialty stores, don’t carry custom-made or handmade shoes that are re-soleable. You could blame that on car-dependency, but it’s more likely due to an overall lack of understanding why one would need shoes that last much longer. People spend their money on cheaper, shorter-life shoes because they don’t have that much money to begin with.

  • Just fork it and make a better UX then (and give it a better name than the current one).

  • I suppose this translates to: “use this in an environment that doesn’t have access to anything important”
