  • I don’t think it needs to replace the OG at all, I think it should bring the OG into modern day and rather than pad the story with explanation, just expand on what was already in the original. The expanded dynamics between Jessie and Cloud, or Tifa and Cloud, or Aerith and Cloud… (is this a harem anime?) actually felt a bit more inline with what I was hoping from the remake. The extra stuff that adds elements that were never in the original felt a bit like retcons, even though the remake might as well be a sequel if the prevailing theories prove to be correct.

  • I’ve had these feelings about FF7 for a loooong time, so I apologize for the length of this in advance.

    I think they need to keep things true to the characters and setting they originally created. They need to forget that things like Advent Children existed, in fact they need to abandon most of the extended FF7 Universe stuff because it tears into the mystery and awe of the original game.

    The sense of scale in Midgar was awesome, it felt like an actual city on top of another much less decadent city. Filling in the blanks for the ShinRa plot points felt kind of dumb, like we had to be shown just how evil everyone there was. In the original, they were evil because they didn’t care about life or the planet, not because they were actively seeking to kill and destroy. They killed and destroyed to protect their image and bottom lines! And Sephiroth… somehow he keeps morphing into this character who is trying to stop Cloud from existing. In the original he didn’t really care about Cloud. He was using Cloud as his most successful clone but it wasn’t like he was invested in killing him. Cloud was the one showing up and trying to stop him, he was always trying to throw a wrench in Sephiroth’s plans.

    I think the OG guys want to make something new and divergent from the original and try not to properly remake the original because they know they will likely fail. Instead they give us an alternate timeline/worldline thing which ends up obscuring the subtlety and finesse the original story actual had. The original was more down to earth and steeped in humanity than anything the extended stuff has given us.

  • This is so cool! My only experience of St. Paul was flying into the airport for a layover during a snowstorm. It was exactly how I imagined the metropoli of Minnesota. I wish I could have explored further, but the layover was a very brief one.

    I used to love making maps and thinking of ways roads and through ways connected together. Now I just do it with random thoughts.

    I spoke of the first few caucuses and it may have been unclear where it was used, it was commissioned for Iowa and Nevada. Even without any ulterior motives, it’s in bad faith for a fresh company full of party insiders to develop an app for one of the most important primary elections.

  • During the 2020 primaries there was an organization set up by former Obama and Clinton campaign staffers for the purpose of creating voting software to be used at polling stations during the primaries. It supposedly failed multiple times and led to victories that couldn’t be properly validated. However, anyone familiar with the primaries knows that the first few states are the most important because they determine the viability of candidates. Is it much of a surprise that Buttigieg who won Iowa, has a Cabinet position? You can call it a myth, but technically primary elections aren’t protected the same way general elections are since they decide a party’s candidate instead of the candidate who wins office.

    Funnily enough, I would have voted for Yang in the 2020 election, but it’s not about who is a reasonable candidate. It’s all about those connections baby. Our country is run not by the most reasonable, but the most corrupt. Our most important election process is a game of prisoner’s dilemma.

  • The same seasoned Democrats that stacked the primaries in her favor? The 2016 election was the first time I had a real voice in an election and it felt like it was just vacuumed away. The candidate who seemed the most appropriate and the most qualified got swept under the rug in favor of the shit-throwers. She wasn’t perfect, she was a better terrible than Trump.

    In 2020 the Democrats scrambled for a viable candidate and somehow Joe Biden was the best they could give us, and it was an absolute gamble. His victory in the 2020 election was dangerously overstated and the danger of a repeat of 2016 in 2024 was ignored.

  • Tax in almost every single place I’ve ever been to in the United States is not nearly so complicated. State tax, occasional city/county tax, seldom restaurant tax are nearly always flat rates. It wouldn’t be difficult to incorporate those taxes applied for each individual item to their prices at all. Most places choose not to because it inflates the price on menus and price tags, and most people assume tax is not included in these prices.

    The initial shock of charging more could convince patrons to go elsewhere if it’s not perfectly clear tax is included in the price.
