  • Just a smol bramble.

    • 2x RPI 5
    • 1x RPI 4
    • all is PoE. One head node which has a USB ssd. No SD cards.
    • DH2300, with 2x2TB drives in Raid 1.

All is network booted from the head node. Had to mess around with iscsi mounted root because i'm running k3s, and it needs block devices.

Offsite backup with a Hetzner storage box.

  • Totally agree. I saw some people doing just plain text messaging and it looked fairly snappy. I assume we're miles away from the idea of pushing pixels on LoRa for a while.

  • Fair, however the meshcore gateway drug starter kit is like 40eur 😅.

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

Does self hosting your own internet count?

  • Exactly this. And if they ask "oh but why not". You just answer "I just dont want to be on your social media". You never have to validate your reasoning for saying no.

If they push the why, then ask them if they're genuinely interested in the answer before giving one. Force them to be a part of the conversation, because why people ask "aww why not", its not because they're interested in the answer, its because they wanta yes. Just say no.

  • I'm vegetarian, I know a bunch of vegans. I don't know if I've ever felt ostracised by any of the vegans I've had a conversation with. I've also got many meat eating friends. We share perspectives with each other and can converse about things like adults (I don't want to eat anything that has a face). I honesly have no idea where the crazy vegans are apart from the news 🤷‍♂️

  • Yes

  • African swallow

  • This person arrives at 10, has a 1.5hour lunch, talks loudly around other people, leaves at 2 because needs to pick up the dog from the dog sitter, complains people are never in the office, only shows up 2 days a week if you're unlucky, 0 days if you're lucky.

  • Piling on another comment to say that lurking here feels much nicer than on reddit. The comments are actually worth reading a lot of the time. RiF going down was a dark day, but Jerboa and Lemmy make everything light.

  • Sounds like they have bins inside. That is responsible no?

You have the right to purchase something, doesn't mean you have the right of convenience.

  • Patents. Its always patents.

There is probably some IP there that can make printers worse for consumers too.

  • The modern interpretation, sure.

And agreed, "random, you might like this" is not as random as "here is a page on red food colouring"

  • That's why I said seeded. Seeded from noise. The random number generator (function) is still an algorithm..

  • In comsci, there are no real random numbers. They are all seeded psuedo-random number algorithms. (Unless you integrate with some third party random as a service setup)

  • Dont worry, lemmings worry about some shutdown every other week. Been here since the API closures, and its quite nice (if you block the news communities)

  • As a person who regularly cycles through Amsterdam (even the centre), the issus is tourist pedestrians. The city does a bare minimum to cater for these travellers, because most of the visits are temporal.

As a cyclist and/or pedestrian, I am never frustrated by locals cycling or walking.

The rule is "its harder for a cyclist to stop than a pedestrian, so be predictable with where you are going and we'll all avoid an accident".

The flow people you walk about is a problem for travellers, not for locals.

  • Yo, are you okay?

  • Hey Bud. You okay?

This reads like you're feeling defeated. It's okay to have hope that the world can get better, even if it feels like the dark days.
