  • Ugh, I absolutely hate reading code with a ton of variables that are only used once, because each introduction of a variable is a new thing that I have to first parse and then track to figure out what it does. I would much rather read a pipeline that expresses what is going on concisely without introducing extraneous elements. In particular, I thought that the pipeline at the start of the article was perfectly clear and did not need any of the subsequent modifications.

  • Unlikely; they said man sudo, not woman sudo.

  • This is all systemd's fault. ☹️

  • Of course, it is only a matter of time before someone takes this and bolts an OOP system on top; the result will be called C3 Plus Objects, or C3PO for short.

  • Is the COBOL committee still working under the assumption that it currently is and will always be the dominant language?

  • If the people creating this music did not feel that they were being fairly compensated, then why did they not just ask for more from the people actually making the games? That seems like the simplest solution.

  • Put another way: what what do you like about uxntal in particular compared to the the other languages in the same family of concatenative languages?

  • Whoever does not understand Monads is doomed to reinvent them.

  • It's not even an balanced tree! What a monster!

  • What a weird false dichotomy. A planet with well over 7 Billion people can do at least two things at once.

You are correct in general, but one cannot do two things at once when the first thing is (at least, arguably) a necessary prerequisite to the second thing.

  • That's great and all, but it still runs on hurdly any architectures.

  • The other thing he [emphasis mine] got wrong is “prompt complexity/coaxing”.

    She, actually.

  • Yes, it is the scripting language of TempleOS.

  • It is worth noting that the more fundamental thing going on here is that abstract syntax trees are the general way in which programs are represented after being parsed, rather than this being something specific to Lisp. What makes Lisp interesting is essentially that it uses a notation that makes the underlying AST incredibly explicit.

  • I think you mean: it is one of the most brain dead comments you have ever hurd about Linux.

  • In fairness, the cost of selling their souls to the Dark Lord Sauron also does not show up in this graphic.

  • Cent O-S is com-ING, to TOWN!!!

  • You have probably (deservedly!) blocked me by now, but in case you have not, I apologize from my other comment. Apparently the standard you all have in the lemmy.ml memes community is different from other memes communities, so what looked to me like you were posting a meme that was completely inappropriate was a complete misunderstanding on my part. I have unsubscribed from this community to preclude the possibility of future misunderstandings.

"GOOD AI DON'T THINK! (They get even.)" would be a great name for a horror movie...

How do I discover the Pixelfed content that is out there when so many big instances block exploration?
