  • Maybe I am reading this wrong but it looks grim. Downward trends all around

  • Yeah, you got a point. We use Ultra Pro but sometimes they get quite sticky. Maybe they are building up electrostatic charge.

Our collection also is not huge and we tend to play the same game over and over again before we commit to something new

  • They are so crazy expensive. A game with 200-400 cards can easily double in prize. But maybe its the only good option

  • We do have a 3D printer and I love improving my games with all sorts of little things. I did also print some 1-part, 2-part, 3-part and 4-part stackable, multicolored trays which I love and use for many game.

And I have also folded some origami for Everdell which is a great addition and still all fits into the box:

But my favorite is our Burgundy Hexagon - it holds all the components of the game and includes also two dice trays. I would not want to play it without it, it makes playing much more fluid. The downtime inbetween phases is super short.

    And all put back together:

  • Which mats and sleeves can you recommend?

We usually sleeve games once its obvious we are going to play it a lot. Terraforming Mars, Clank, Dominion, Ark Nova all come to mind. But sometimes the sleeves are rather sticky. It feels like good sleeves are super expensive.

  • This week we played our recent purchase of Viticulture for the first time. As a learning-game with two players the experience was fine. It was not exceptional but still enjoyable and very thematic.

I think it blends some worker placement and order-fullfilment well. We will have to play a couple more times to make a final assessment.

We also played our classics Dominion and Ark Nova

  • Why should they do that?

  • I think out of those, splendor duel is the best one. We play it a lot for a quick session. While Azul is fine and easy to learn, it is kinda heavy on math if you want to be good.

  • I agree that patchwork is a good simple 2-player and the theme is kinda funny but man did I think that game was boring. We played two times and now its collecting dust.

  • Thanks so much for sharing! I agree about AI art, at least spend 1minute to count the fingers/arms and so on… its not that hard.

Nice finds! I have not tried Satori but its on my list

  • My god Golem seems super complex:D

  • How did Ark Nova work out for you this time? Did you enjoy it?

  • We have settled a bit more and had the chance to whip out some games: We played one game each of Ark Nova and Castles of Burgundy with two players. I think these two games are our current two-player favorites and it does not feel like something is left out when playing it (unlike some other games for more than two players).

We also played two 4-player session of Clank!: Catacombs - I love it more and more, maybe not with two players but with 3+ its great fun. It can be more deadly than the first and I enjoy this. Depending on the explored dungeon, the exit might be very easy or really hard. I like that a lot. Dungeon crawling, deckbuilding, exploration, interesting decision and fun mechanisms.

And last but not least is Amritsar - it was all our first time playing but our host was very well prepared and guided us through the beginning. We were 4 players and the game combines a few different mechanics like those found in 5-Tribes. While the game is interesting, it did not click with me. It was fun playing it but I dont think I would choose it again as a game on the table.

  • It was similar for me with Heat, I did not enjoy it that much. Sure, interesting concept but in the end, I had little fun playing it.

  • I also have to correct myself, I meant to say I do not think its too much luck-based. Sure, sometimes everything can go wrong but usually there are many avenues to claw your way back in. I even had games were everything aligned, I got all the cards I needed and could aim to get the max conservation points on the green cards, in the end I lost because I did not have enough power-5 actions to play it all. So important lessons were learned :)

  • Sorry to hear that this is your experience with Ark Nova. I think its very little luck based but strategy heavy and finding ways to get through a lot of cards to find what you need can be crucial. I personally think its the best two player game out there

  • For us the dust is settling after moving and yesterday we played some good old Dominion 2ed with Intrigue 2ed. I use Randominion to create the market of cards and simply wanted that at least 50% of the cards are from intrigue. We hd a very close first game with steward (chapel light) and it came down to a single point difference. The other game was a slaughter with Replace, Mill and Nobles all in the game so curses were flying left and right. We exhausted all curses quickly
