  • update for future googlers:

I ended up buying the Kinesis Freestyle 2 with the extra wrist rests. It's not mechanical but I couldn't justify the extra cost for both an ergonomic and mechanical keyboard.

  • I think bus on fire beats irate driver.

  • Granted. You can talk to and understand animals because you are now as intelligent as an animal. The centers of your brain responsible for language and higher thought have devolved. Your speech is no longer productive or recursive. You can only utter the same ten or so isolated cries that express extremely simple emotions like fear and anger or bodily needs like hunger. You are no longer capable of symbolic thought or imagination. You can't even count past four.

But it's not all bad. Your crippling existential dread is gone. You live in the moment, incapable of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Your hierarchy of needs extends no further than adequate shelter and food, no need for self-actualization since you barely have a self to actualize. You are still a creature that needs to be selfish and occasionally violent to survive, but you're no longer burdened by moral guilt, as you are incapable of conceiving of being anything else. Life must take life to endure. You either survive or you don't, simple as that.

I made a spreadsheet of my 20 year old Pokemon Sapphire team

  • Eye scream scoop

  • I owned one of those back in 2009. I liked it, though I can't go back to rubber dome keys.

  • I always assumed they get absorbed or break down eventually.

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

Is there a split ergonomic keyboard that has dedicated arrow keys and a full row of function keys?

  • Side note, absolutely hate the fact that “they” are trying to take my thumbs up away.

Is that a thing? I use it as a nonverbal backchannel like "uh-huh" or "yeah" or a nod of the head, something quick to indicate that I understand and am following along.

I know in some cultures (North Africa?) it's the equivalent to the middle finger (🖕)

  • Macarons are awesome. That light airy slightly crispy "bun" things plus the creamy middle. Based on the comments I wager I put a lot more emphasis on mouth feel than a lot of people here.

  • interesting. I generally associate peanut brittle with texture (dry but slightly sticky, and of course brittle).

  • As a 'Murican, I'll say Vegemite. Black, gooey, smells like an unwashed armpit, but I love it on a sandwich with salami and mustard. Mixed it into a chili that ended up winning a chili cook off.

Shame you can only easily find Marmite around here. It's similar, but the texture is different, more like rubber cement.

  • I get that reference

  • I believe the most widely cited range is 1983-1996. '96 is too young IMO. I tend to describe it qualitatively. Millennials were too young to care about the cold war, but old enough to care about 9/11, and were in college or recently graduated just in time for the great recession. So we had an optimistic childhood, were made painfully aware of global geopolitics just as we were becoming adolescents, and got economically punched in the gut just in time to start adulting for real.

  • I'm aware that usage depends on various factors. The title came off more prescriptive than intended. I have edited it accordingly.

What in your opinion is the appropriate way to use emojis?

  • Take Georgia the country and Georgia the state and merge them, no more confusion.

  • Yeah, my sister bought an SP and my assessment was more or less the same. But the original GBA screen was terrible. That pic is under a really bright work lamp, and it was difficult to find the narrow angle where the screen reflected enough light to be visible but also wasn't reflecting the lamp LEDs. Back in the day I played it wearing a pair of microscope glasses, which were a regular glasses frame with a sort of jeweler's loupe mounted in the left eye, and I had to hold it with my nose almost touching the screen. As you can probably guess that wasn't great for getting a good light angle.

In a new game of Super Mario Bros Deluxe, Luigi has the number 1 high score. I find that oddly wholesome.

  • Is shunning people for not using Linux also gatekeeping? I feel like I get that a lot.
