  • Firstly, I absolutely hate that the US gets a free pass on everything and im sick of leaders refusing to blame Trump for this shit show for fear of reprisal.

That said, I genuinely feel like piracy is a more apt description of the Somalia's behavior, where it isn't really for the US.

Are the Somalis acting on government orders?

Is there any question that their behavior is illegal?

Is the primary motivation of those boarding the boat their own self enrichment?

I would very much like to see Trump held accountable for this shit show but I think this particular angle is pretty thin.

  • Conservatives seem to be on the wrong side of every single issue.

  • Yeah the piefed UI in a browser is perfectly fine.

  • The Strait isn't "blocked" as in a physical mine field. They can allow boats through as they wish.

  • If you get stopped by the police because you're driving too fast or driving erratically, is there any chance they would draw their firearm during that interaction, even if they dont point it at you?

  • Thanks.

You're probably right but there's several other metal posts so I dont want this one to be significantly different.

Thanks for your input on the angle brackets. That seems sensible, theyre not load bearing.

  • Nah.

Citizens have e always been held accountable for the acts and behaviour of their nation.

For example, if a single IDF soldier had raped or murdered a Palestinian, and the IDF had a trial and punished them appropriately, then perhaps an Israeli is not accountable for that

However when a country perpetuates a campaign of genocide, you cant really expect a free pass as a conscientious objector. The abuse of Palestinians is so deeply embedded in Israeli culture - soldiers sharing photos of the victims of their abuse is a celebrated daily occurrence.

In Australia for example our indigenous first Australians were abused by European settlers. That was mostly before I was born, but my generation is still held to account.

  • The thing about good scams is that they exist in the grey area between fraud and real services.

Almost every answer in this thread is an example of this. Insurance for example - this is when you pay someone else to take responsibility for a risk. The modern economy couldn't exist without it. However, there are plenty of insurance policies which don't provide much value and are more like fraud than a real service.

  • Just google it brother the internet is awash with this stuff right now.

  • Forgive me if some of the details are a little off, happy to be corrected, but:

    • the first attempt during the campaign was almost certainly fake.
    • barbie lady said something about "shots fired" a few hours before the incident, as though she had misunderstood something in the group chat.
    • last week a judge said the only basis on which Trump could build the Ballroom was over security concerns.
    • moments after the incident Trump said that they need the Ballroom because of security concerns at the WH.
    • the photos do look pathetically staged, although the videos less-so.
  • Thanks.

    All great stuff.

Now you mention it, of course you're correct that the rusted part can probably be cut off and replaced with a stirrup.

  • I used to be ambivalent to Israel but for fuck sake they just seem like a collection of the most awful people on the planet. Regardless of their history i feel like they deserve to have their entire country blockaded and obliterated to dust.

  • Fair enough. I'd be very concerned about mounting anything on the underside of the ceiling, because all the weight is pulling directly along the shaft of whatever fixing you use.

  • Even setting aside America's bullshit Medical industry, yanks have really weird ideas about freedom.

As an Australian the American concept of freedom always seemed nuts, even pre-Trump. Yes American's have the freedom to carry firearms, but I much prefer the Australian freedom to live without fear of being shot.

  • DIY @slrpnk.net

I Can Replace this Rusted Post but ...

  • Can you elaborate on "weight loads on ceilings" ?

This post has kind of inspired me to follow up on my plan to make a storage area in the roof cavity over my garage.

Do you mean non-trafficable ceilings? My house is designed with timber ceiling joists around 450mm apart suspended from the A-frame roof.

I asked about it on some DIY sub a while back and the consensus was that it's fine for some boxes of junk.

Obviously I share your and OPs concerns about overhead loads. I'm trying to figure out how comfortable I am with this.

  • Nah.

Things are definitely going to get interesting in the coming months and a false flag operation is absolutely on the table

However, I don't think they would bother with something this pathetic at this time. They weren't even shooting at the pres this time. This isn't going to rate a blip and no one will remember it when they go to vote in the mid terms.

Think more like the 9/11 attacks but with less regard for human life, human suffering, and something that will stoke hatred for years and decades. For example, a dirty bomb in California.

Edit: Sorry I've changed my mind. Earlier I was thinking the motivation would be Trump's popularity generally. However, if the motivation is to build the ballroom then that changes things significantly. It seems likely that this was staged to substantiate a claim that the ballroom is required for security reasons.

  • Sure but why the feminine hygiene products?

  • I have a small consultancy with several staff.

Couldn't care less about a gap on someone's resume.

I wouldn't ask but if someone told me they'd taken a year off to get stoned every day and watch judge judy that's not a deal breaker.

  • These guys are doing so much harm to everyone every day that a few dozen of them nearly getting shot just doesn't rate a mention.

It's hard to really capture with words how much harm has been done and will persist through the decades. I live on the other side of the world, and our farmers will only receive 30% of their usual fertiliser orders because Trump made a catastrophic unforced error, but that's just an example from the most recent few days of horror. The hits just keep on coming.

We are all so weary from bearing witness to this every day that I don't have any concern left to give.

If news broke that we had all been enslaved by a hostile extra terrestrial force I feel like I would be more curious then distraught.
