  • Your English is exceptional if it’s your second language.

  • ‘Everyone else are’ seems to be correct as it’s a plural, but ‘everyone else is’ sounds better.

Any English teachers around to ask which is correct? The older I get, the less I seem to understand my own language.

  • Sticking with the 80s theme: The Fall Guy

There’s loads of great 80s themes. Another one I remember the tune but not the show, went along the lines of ‘until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on’.

  • I’ve outright not even looked at opportunities working in certain companies eg Meta, gambling firms etc.

Have worked for an ‘evil’ corpo before when I was very young and became disillusioned and jaded.

It’s a major consideration for me now when looking at potential employers, as to how ethical it is and what it gives back to society.

I don’t just want to make line go up for shareholders, I would like to make a difference, however naive that may sound.

  • This is exactly what I thought- and then wondered how practical it would be making these as headstones. Certainly an interesting way to leave the world - while providing clean local power.

  • You can pay for better education ie a private school but it’s very expensive (in our area, about 3-4k a term) and the state schools are almost as good.

Also, we want our child to grow up in the ‘real’ world, in a more diverse environment, worldviews, cultures etc. We could, just about afford to go private with a lot of cutbacks and scrimping… but we’ve thought about it a lot and would prefer he goes state.

They offer both academic and vocational, both the traditional (age 11-16) GCSEs, and the IB, as well as pathways to vocational trades. I know absolutely nothing about the IB side.

  • I’m very curious with a vested interest, as my young’un is going to a school with both IB and other types of qualifications on offer to study. How is IB flawed in comparison to, say, GCSE or A levels? Would value any insight.

  • It might not rank as NASA’s no. 1 triumph, or even its no. 2. But the Artemis crew may take more comfort in solving this problem than any other on this mission.

They’ve dumped a load of puns in there.

  • Not sure how this:

Being a country made of migrants

    Would lead to this:

the US has attracted the worst of all humanity

…especially given that most countries are ‘made of migrants’.

  • And thank you both for reminding me why I like this place.

  • Only once (that I recall). Had a fairly traumatic experience watching a loved one nearly bleed out. A few days later in the hospital, hallucinated very briefly that the plastic tubing you see for O2 on the wall near the bed, was full of blood. only lasted a few moments but was bizarre.

  • I like the expression: “Going through hell? Then keep going!”

  • Slow clap. Nice.

  • Perhaps. We’ll know when the authorities feel they Kanban books.

  • Not sure why you took that in a hostile manner when no hostility was intended.

It wasn’t really directed at you and I only took a part of the statement (which I’ve heard a lot from different sources) to make that observation.

Edit: A shame that text doesn’t adequately convey tone. No ill will my friend.

  • Israel getting wiped out by its neighbors to start Armageddon

Well then they haven’t really studied the Bible properly if they think it refers to just Israel, literally. Israel is used frequently as an all encompassing term to refer to the ‘church’ as a whole, so all Christians.

    Not specifically the country.
