  • I played with an all seconds form of time measurement for a bit. Where everything is just some metric scale of seconds.

So a revolution around the sun on earth is about 31.536 MegaSeconds (msecs) with that number slowly decreasing.

86.4 kiloseconds(ksecs) is a rotation of the earth. Which is a bit arbitray except for the relation of that the light level and cooling and heating levels outside with be roughly simular in 86.4 ksecs. Most biological things can be mapped to those cycles called days.

From some key refrences depend on the location of earth you are in, and what part of year we are in. So lets say at lat/long 38, -90 and 4.32 msecs or 50 days since the winter solstice the number of hours of light is about 43.86 ksecs. So 44 ksecs probally good enough for most people till the summer solstice 47 ksecs and 34 ksecs on the winter solstice.

Again all of these are just kind of common reference points, the goal would be just xyz (k|m|g)secs from now or since then. 189 ksecs since COVID was declared a pandemic. Ill be available for calls for the next 30 ksecs. In about 80k secs ill be available for another 30k. Etc

  • It is both all he cares about and something he can't bring himself to truely care about.

  • Its actually crazy how little is done for energy efficeny and EV preparedness for high denisty housing in the midwest US to me. There is just next to no incentive for most places because 1 they dont pay for electricty and 2 they dont have to tell potential tenets just how bad the bills tend to be in a place.

The EV preparedness is mostly just the lack of rent seeking potential vs any effort most rental companies are willing to put in.

Theoretically those bastards could be upselling power from meters they installed on the property and be making money from it, but that would require running a buisness with skilled and valued workers and not a constant revolving door of underpaid under trained employees.

  • constant surveillance. Where we are, where we are going, who we are with, how we feel, everything we say, what we are looking at. Just constant needling to answer those questions by multiple groups at every chance they can for myself and everyone i know.

Like it skeeves me out for myself, buy for the kids in my life i am more enraged about it. Like leave them the hell alone. I dont trust the goverment or corperations trying it or that they wont let other creeps get ahold of that info either.

  • Qubes is really cool but it uses VM instead of containers, and for its use case you basically have too. Containers isolation at almost no cost come from actually share the underlying kernel and hardware. That isnt isolated enough for data domain seperation thay qubes is built around.

That is one reason i have multiple clusters actually, and the confidential container effort is actually light weight VMs with tools to intergrate them with the network of the host correctly (and multikey memory encryption to fully enforce the boundary). I havent goten around to deploying an app like that yet myself though

  • When i put water out and i see birds or bees getting a drink.

My pups getting comfy laying around or just playing.

When i see kids being kind or helpful.

A well made or machined thing. Flat surfaces. Sturdy material. Tight toleranzes. Compliant interfaces that fit with my body.

  • Is the driver not coded up like an APU?

  • Version "numbers" are actually period seprated lists of integers.

    Equally valid could be (13(12(0))).

All i ask, as a humble admin please dont make breaking changes in the minor or patch colums.

  • I run most of my software in containers. Firefox is in a flatpak. My terminal shells are all containers using distrobox. My homelab services are all containers. My few VMs (i run a few vituralized rke2 clusters, sometimes a test version of my baremetal harvester cluster, and test versions of my desktops)? Also running in containers. My desktop OSs are also containers (ublue, SteamOS, and SUSE Elemental).

The future is now old man! :p

But honestly linux namespaces and overlay filesystems are the bees knees. Create reusable layers of filesystems, use just the ones needed for a given app/service. Expose just what a service or app needs to for a given function. You end up with an extemly portable, and consistent system that has cleaner seperations of concerns. For basically free. From an app dev perspective you remove a whole matrix of supported configurations to worry about (distro/version/packages installed/etc).

  • "Hi im

    <girlfriends name>

's boyfriend. No no that is my legal name." Behavoir

  • "I don't want another drink, I don't want another bump I'm afraid of falling down if I get much further up I don't want another hit, I don't want another shot Don't you make another line that I do not wanna cross

My friends, their friends, their friends' friends Are trying to kill me, really Everybody that I know Is trying to kill me, really"

    honestly i go through cycles

  • Right! GraphRAG, VectorDBs, larger context windows, MCP servers, "tools", "skills", and now "using the cli as a user" still havent really solved some of the inherent flaws of even the latest frontier models. SLMs and fining tuning gives me hope on addressing the learning part of machine learning. At least a little more

  • How have tests gone so far?

also cool concept, you can actually get eBPF XDP to compile to FPGA on some smart NICs even further pushing it away from the core system if it works!

  • No problem!

  • Fair. I guess all air borne thibg suffer from being a potential energy battery (they fall) and have to be made much lighter to be reasonably energy effecrive.

Honstly RC car is probally better most of the time

  • Honestly 100% for Odysee and Peertube adopting this plus if we could get proxing for each other too.

Opensource can win because we can do what google cant afford to do (their investors would flip).

  • That is a runtime that some flatpaks use as well.

Gnome and KDE as projects are a bunch of things, from login managers, to compositers, desktop UIs, and user application (like Gnome "System Monitor" or KDEs "Plasma System Monitor").

You can actually mix and match some pieces and they just work, but especially the user apps because both teams put in work for interoperabilty or Freedesktop standarization.

So you can have an app that uses KDEs shared libs and an app that uses the Gnome projects libs on the same issue with rarely any issue. Even more so with flatpak since the all of the files those apps see are in what is called an overlay filesystem, so your kde apps get a layer of files jist for KDE apps to build off of and gnome apps get a layer of files just for them to use. In flatpak these are called runtimes. That is what is being updated here.

  • You cam write code that does almost anything, execution is a different thing.

  • If this was a opensource dev making some filter for games it would neat. Like Big Naturals Withers. But this is like if Gamesworkshop said if ypu want to play a game based our IP you have parade out big naturals withers at least once an hour of gameplay.

Nvidia litterally does that kind of shit all the time, and they are in an even more insanly dominate position then ever.
