  • To be fair the division stems from sininster algorithms. Each individual's internet reality is vastly different from one to another. If you're constantly bombarded with propaganda from one side, its fair to assume your opinions will be reinforced or begin to lean one way or another.

    Facebook is especially sinister. They essentially have turned the asch conformity experiment into a social media platform.

    Basically using your friends, favorite celebrities, and peers to influence your views. They even have fake accounts that appear to look like they are from your local community.

  • The majority of Americans side with our allies. Even those that voted for trump. But this is our mess to clean up. What we need is informational aide. Truth and facts are being held hostage by corporate sponsored social media. Im glad lemmy can answer that call. But we need a coordinated effort to take down zuckerfuck, elmo, and fuckspez propaganda machine.

  • I definately feel what you're feeling. My feeds are definitely more organic by default. When ive scrolled too far in a short amount of time, i then have the customizable feed sort options to lean on. Its better, you dont feel like you're constantly fed someone else's agenda.

    Luigi is an unconvicted suspect for the murder of a health insurance ceo who used ai to auto-deny claims in the name of increasing profits.

    The accused is suspected of gunning him down in the street on the way to a conference. Was big news until the majority of people were championing him as a hero.

    After that its crickets from the news outlet and americans are banned from posting his name on corporate social media platform unless its specifically about his court case. We are not allowed to rally around violence. Hence we make up luigi's mansion memes and code words to get around it.

  • Exactly. My dad... Everytime healthcare for all comes up, he says! Thats socialism! I wont vote for a socialist. I like my private insurance that on average cost 400-500 per month with a 3k deductible max out of pocket 10k vs 180-275 per month for M4A with no deductible.

    Edit...just realized he will be going on medicare soon if it doesnt get culled by our current administration. Wonder what he thinks about that....and his SS.

  • Yeah it came quickly and quietly. Corporate consolidation, equity firms, and billionaire money have completly dismantled the internet. I feel like it started around the time net neutrality was overturned.

  • Im just glad i found a place where i dont have jump through a dozen hoops to contribute content. A place that i can discuss important topics respectfully without getting attacked by toxic comments and threats. Its good to be on lemmy.

  • Thats a good point! Boost and sync were popular with reddit anf people miss their third party apps. Now we just need someone to take the RiF app and make it the LiF app.
