  • Just tried it on my OnePlus 6T! Having rpm-ostree is a good idea IMO. Some observations:

    • boot is a bit clunky (feels weird to see GRUB on a phone)
    • out of the box experience was a bit lacking: systemd service that installed some default apps keep failing because the GPG keys for flathub were missing.
    • some apps are flagged as non compatible with phone layout, but they actually work well!

    Everything else looks similar to postmarketOS!

  • Uh that is unfortunate :/ battery protection circuits do not usually care about capacity directly, but just about max currents (which is usually related to capacity), so… unless you need a lot of current, get a 2A limiter and you should be good.

    Try not to short anything else, like the battery terminals though! It may weld stuff into a continuous short and start a fire.

  • That looks like a battery protection PCB, yeah. It usually does three things:

    • over voltage protection
    • undervoltage protection
    • overcurrent protection
    • reverse polarity protection

    Bypassing it would be a bad idea, but it’s also pretty rare they fail. Maybe it’s just in undervoltage protection mode. Try to hook up your variable power supply with 4.2V and a 50-100mA current limit to the battery tabs (check polarity!) and see if the cell takes current. Above 3.6V the battery protection should lift and you should see voltage on the battery output terminals.

  • With displays like these, it’s either parallel or SPI. Try to find a chip in the kapton circuit, that is the actual display driver.

    Try to find out the FPC pinout, there should be two pins for backlight, find out of there’s any GND, etc… my gut says this is some kind of SPI based controller, 24 pins is too little for a parallel one.

  • I settled on OpenProvider.com (Netherlands). If you have lots of domains you can get reseller access and buy domains at no markup, basically.

    The only annoying thing is that you need to add money to the account instead of simply paying for the domains.

    It’s not like this is an oopsie bug, this is a major vuln knowingly indroduced by the dev, and their response is somewhat shocking.

    I recommend plenty of alpha/beta software to people, of course with the disclaimer that it’s not done yet, but sure, feel free to not trust me at all, stranger :)

    For the record, I did not encounter major bugs in my ~1 month of usage.

  • I was a user, I even recommended it to people, but since the discovery of this issue I feel uneasy to continue using/recommending it. That dev response is appalling.
