My stories: Abandoned drippings

  • That can't be right, that would mean I'm actually getting older

  • Lmao house at 30 yeah you're doing fine my friend

  • I'm mid forties now and I'm preparing for battle

  • Right it's silly to deny consciousness (a phenomenon we know almost nothing about) just because we can see the inner workings of a system.

  • Ah the FOSS aspect and that whole ecosystem is really enjoyable to me so I'll often pick the shittier option in terms of fidelity if it let's me have my machine like I like it more generally.

  • It is true that it's impossible to buy things or identify yourself online right now, so I can see why they're doing it.

  • Break up the billionaires while you're at it. Their sickness will boil the seas away to nothing

  • Are you using Nvidia? I don't have a windows machine to compare against but I haven't noticed any performance issues

  • Even for tinkering, check out bistrobox that comes installed with it. Stupid simple to just run a Debian (or whatever) container for packages that expect a mutable os

  • It's happening now tbh. More people across the experience spectrum than ever before are using linux. I'm loving it

  • Noooo don't make me an anarchist 😭

  • They want the power to do whatever they will while enjoying the protections of the publicly funded state against anyone who might try to stop them.

And for the most part they get it. But their power isn't total yet. We still have a window of possibility.

  • I mean it's either healthcare or don't close and reopen random straits. Clearly the voters' representatives have spoken and the people prefer the second one

  • As someone on the downswing of this seesaw, I welcome a rebalancing.

I think a big issue for working class folks who can even afford to prep for retirement is we don't know how much we'll need. And basically the fewer rights and social safety nets you have, the more money you need to attempt to insulate yourself from the ravages of capitalism.

If we had more socialist policies to keep everyone relatively comfortable even the poor, then working people wouldn't have to be so mercenary about building their nest egg (which will never be big enough to be totally safe anyway).

  • We take it for granted that as the fediverse grows in numbers and nodes that it will continue to stay mostly contiguous.

  • This is how I see it. If fedi proper becomes mainstream then us old heads will just recreate the old fedi and guard who we federate with very closely.

Most people aren't here for commerce, so I think it makes sense to keep some areas aggressively social only.

Malls versus parks or libraries kind of thing.

  • People complain about Lemmy having limited content and engagement.

Maybe I would have thought this at one point? I remember when you could get to the bottom of the All feed in one session.

Lemmy is probably the fastest paced social I go on now. I've got my people I follow on masto and a handful of forums. So coming to lemmy from those feels downright metropolitan.

  • Yeah and I'd like to see it become increasingly scrappy and decentralised using lightweight fedi software like snac.

  • AHHHHHHHH!!! 😵

What is the word for when you're reaching for something, and the reach turns into a stretch?
