  • I have, it was my go to before EA WRC came along. Honestly? Its not that its a bad game, but it leans more into the arcadey style of sim racing physics and that's fine, but it's not really my vibe.

Its a shame because some of the engine sounds from that game were the best of all time still to this day, imo. Not to mention having Welsh and Scottish stages! I miss those.

  • The realism and detail of the stages in ACR is like nothing I've seen elsewhere. Every other game is just flat and like a ribbon. I guess that's laser scanning for you!

I can't personally say I noticed too much trouble with the throttle model in RWD (then again, I mostly main the Stratos and 037), what is it you think about it? Not saying you're wrong, just curious

  • Yeah I totally feel you there. I very nearly pulled the trigger on Evo but then they announced that they weren't doing the free roam or something which was like the main selling point imo. Otherwise it's just....Assetto Corsa again 🤷‍♂️

  • Same! I think I tried it once a long time ago and immediately wrote it off haha. But actually, as I've discovered this time round and in the videos, if you drive with real caution and respect to start with, you get a sense of how the car behaves and can slowly ramp up the aggression you put into it. Very satisfying learning experience tbh

Sake. Can every bloody FOSS project stop falling out with itself and fighting with each other?

  • I love RBR, but I always struggled with the disconnect of the visual damage model and damage handling physics. It feels totally strange and buggy to drive a car where you’ve obviously bent the steering rack/broken suspension in some way but the car appears visually fine

  • Interesting, added to my wish list. Thanks!

  • Sim Rally & Racing @lemmy.world

The Lancia EVO37. THIS is how to modernise a legend.

  • Honestly, I absolutely love it.

I’m not overstating here, but I really think it is going to be the new gold standard for rally sim- even over RBR.

If you’re interested, I didn’t alive stream of it here https://video.gamerstavern.online/w/wrfnBuS7yVSJZ7fJ616cTq

There’s unfortunately a bit of stuttering due to me being a total noob and having my streaming resolution/nitrate mixed up :/

Anyway- very much worth the 20 quid you pay for it. Needs a little setup to get your bindings set up and FFB how you want it, but don’t they all?

  • I’m genuinely chuffed you gave it a go off the back of the video!!! I’m always averse to tarmac driving so I always stayed away from it. So I guess that makes sense as to why I manage gravel/mud better 😅

You’ve absolutely nailed it about the gamepad- being able to switch between full opposite lock instantly is a real advantage on gamepad- the equivalent action on a physical wheel is a little neck breaking 😂

From the point of 2:23 onwards, I guess I don’t full throttle because I actually have very very little force feedback through that tree section- and the angle of attack is so narrow that if you’re misaligned too much, it’s instant tree. Not that I’ve done that, at all, multiple times….

This car is all about feathering that throttle so you don’t lose the back end too much because yeah as you say, going sideways is hella fun but you lose a lot of time haha.

Thanks for sharing, as well- great to hear!

  • For controller sure, but bear in mind if you’re looking at something like a wheel with force feedback, and pedals with pressure sensitive response, that changes more than just button presses

Edit: to be clear I’m not defending the shit in this article in question. Just that some of the stuff they do may actually need a driver. But not everything…

  • Tbf, they make things like sim racing equipment etc

  • To be fair RBR has an insane amount of maps so it might be an unfair comparison 🤣 that’s said though, I really don’t like how a lot of RBR maps are really…flat and barren. Really breaks the immersion and sense of speed.

  • I really, REALLY have high hopes for this especially after EA abandoned WRC now. We desperately need a new leader in rally games that does modern graphics and accurately recreated cars.

  • Hey, thank you for the nice comments! Honestly, I think I could shave off another 10 seconds, but 20 seconds seems like a lot. I could improve my cornering a lot, but I’m limited by the fact that it is RWD with an ungodly amount of wheel spin and power that kicks that back end out so easily.

When you try the course, comment back here how you got on! I’m intrigued to see how other people find it 🤣

    Edit: wrote times wrong

  • I love this, approved. Considering making it the header image for the sub…

  • Ah I should really try and get back into rallycross again. I played it a fair bit on Dirt Rally 2, but not tried it on EA WRC yet. I think what’s holding me back I want to get a sequential shifter before I get into that 😅

Edit: also the guy popping up on the bank at 0:24 mark is hilarious
