welp guess I'm John Fireemblemshitposting now

  • This is quite an impressive launch from Framework. Even with the high RAM and storage prices, it is still cost competitive with an equivalent MacBook Pro (my yardstick for mid-high end laptops), but with a fully open design you can run Linux on without any virtual machines, and with (claimed) nearly equal battery life. I am somewhat disappointed though by that display, in my opinion touch is not as worthwhile compared to a display with local dimming (OLED/Mini LED).

  • I am saving this immediately

  • For some reason Lemmy is weirdly buggy when it comes to animated WEBP files, so you may need to click on the image or otherwise access the image URL, since then the browser can render it correctly.

  • Seems I was off the mark, as TrueNAS does things differently than pure Docker. According to this thread you need a bridge network and/or to convert Home Assistant to a TrueNAS custom app to get the host mode checkbox.

  • From my searching, there should be a checkbox called "Host Network" that you can tick in order to put the container into host networking mode.

  • Since you are running Docker, it's most likely Home Assistant's auto discover being blocked by a firewall or port settings or something else along those lines. Make sure the container's network mode is set to host, and then you have one of two options. You can either manually add the bulbs (not familiar with LIFX but I think it is done by IP address in the "add integrations" part of the devices menu) or find what is blocking the auto discovery so it will find the bulbs and other devices automatically.

  • Unfortunately having the whole menu doesn't mean you actually get to order off there.

  • Great minds think alike, already watch them. My hand nearly hit my head at supersonic speed when I found out the super advanced NSMB Wii copy protection ended up being broken before release.

  • To the best of my knowledge, most of the CD rippers back in the day used the Fraunhofer codec or in the case of iTunes its own encoder, so I guess this only really became an issue once FLAC sources became somewhat commonplace. In addition, the encoders used on a decent number of music download sites (most notably Sony's Mora) seem to work fine on the 3DS, bar the long loading time with the images, so I guess Nintendo never felt the need to make it work with other encoders. Knowing them though, there's probably some horrible spaghetti code behind the scenes causing this.

  • I know someone with a BYD Seal, it's got its ups and downs. Generally a decent car all around, it's crazy fast, and the materials feel quite nice. Main issues I saw were that the software is kind of rough around the edges in places (imagine like how Huawei and Oppo's software is in Western markets) and the dealer networks aren't as well established. Haven't had one as a daily driver though, so some of the finer details may have escaped me.

  • Just did some more trials and the Fraunhofer AAC codec works. Check the update in the post for details, but the TL:DR is to either use fre:ac's Flatpak (which includes the encoder) or find a version of FFmpeg for your distro that includes the encoder.

  • I guess I was so caught up in the GPU shortage that went under my radar. Seemingly nothing is immune from these component shortages.

  • If you use a ThinkPad that has its track point designed around the assumption that middle click is used for scroll and only scroll, it will send you crazy. Thankfully KDE can disable it in most apps through a setting, but some apps keep on doing it anyway.

  • That is a bit odd. Maybe it doesn't sell that well in the EU. Here in the UK pretty much all the major retailers sell them, plus the PlayStation Direct store.

  • The PS5 does have a media remote. It is available for sale at most retailers that stock PS5 controllers.

  • The old Dysons are way better than whatever the hell they're doing nowadays. I could genuinely feel the difference in the plastic quality when I moved from an older DC 39 to a newer Big Ball (the Big Ball's is significantly worse). Not to mention the Big Ball has gone through two roller heads (both had the mechanism break). No wonder their newer cordless models have a 2 year warranty instead of the old corded 5 year. They used to be really good, if a bit expensive, but now the options from Bosch and Miele look far more attractive.
