  • neat idea, I like it. However, determining the value of a file by its size does not actually work as an analogy. There may be super important things that are stored as small text files while other huge files can be of less interest. But I do like to idea of playing with file "weight"-probably make the file heavier when doing permanent actions such as deleting?

  • Yes, I also use Zettlr and it works fine. Especially with the Zotero integration. But you are right, it sometimes needs some tweaks to work fine.

  • I do both, but usually I use markdown to write the texts because it features basic formatting like headers and bold text, but it's faster and easier to write. Then I use pandoc to convert it into .tex and do the final editing and adjusting directly in Latex.

  • You must be laughing but I work with medical professionals and they do use ChatGPT all the time. Maybe not (yet) for trivial stuff like what you said, but basically for everything else. My boss, a senior physician, basically tells everyone that the end of medical education is near and proposes some form of human-assisted AI in medical practice.

  • Man muss gar nichts vorschreiben. Zwei Dinge: 1. Firmen sind keine Engel; die wollen nur das beste für sich und ihre Shareholder (ja ja, die kleine Bude, wo ein guter Freund arbeitet, ist super sozial und eine Ausnahme). Die allermeisten Firmen drängen jetzt schon wieder stark auf ein zurück zum Büro. 2. Wenn aus der Politik das unterstützende Narrativ kommt, dann wird sich auch hier der Zeitgeist wieder umstellen. Insofern hat das Bierzeltgelaber sicherlich gute Chancen, dass künftig immer weniger Home Office angeboten wird.

  • I'm a computer scientist and work in academia. Programming stuff usually takes like ~10% of my time, while the rest is theory and more like social sciences, i.e. studying human behaviour when working with machines etc. So even if I were to replace all my actual programming with vibe coding, I still would be a computer scientist because to me, coding is just a tool to achieve a bigger purpose. I think you are more referring to the job of a software dev, which can be someone that studied CS, but not necessarily.
