  • He makes an honest point. Besides, my first 980 pro lasted only 24 months. The second lasted 26. It's nice performance but without much reliability.

  • Thanks for the plant finder. There were clearly a few things missing from the list, but it was correct in the results that showed as I was familiar with most. Over half are growing up there right now, though not so well. It's just a rough patch of property.

    I went with a lawn grass that is drought and shade resistant. I pick up our 150lb mulch mower and carry it up the hill manually. It's awful and brutal, but the back can endure it so far. The first patch got mowed last Saturday at it's 30 day mark, and looks fan-fuggin-tastic. Have to see how it holds when the dry season hits. We got skimped on our rain last week, and everything started drying out. I had to lug 45 gallons of water up the hill manually to water the new patch with a watering can.

  • I came down from the hill at about 3:15am listening to the American Robins sing their song and the Northern Cardinals calling out their territories. Occasionally, a wood thrush could be heard. It was nice, and I wanted to stay, but I wanted coffee too...

    We have a few Eastern Barred Owls that live somewhere on the plateau. I haven't found their roost yet, but I see them a lot. I did not hear them last night to fix a location.

  • No clover. Too shady, but I did look into it. Had to go with a shade/drought tolerant grass. I planted shade wildflowers and they just germinated. If the deer don't eat them, I might just plant them these here two bags of cereal rye in return.

    Actually, our house stands apart on our street for the very reasons you describe. We're those weirdos too. Lotta stone. Lotta stumps. Lotta plant life. Lotta natural. No pesticides. Nice to meet you. Grats on your grant. That would be pretty cool.

  • I'm just west of Pittsburgh, PA. I sure do hope that's all it is. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed it until I did not hear it last night. Honestly, I remember having crickets before school would let out for the summer. We'd usually do a camp out before school ended and everyone went on vacation.

    Been seeing a lot of birds. Lot of spiders. Tons of ants. and a metric ton of chipmonks. (They ate my catnip, by the way). Insects in general are down, but not gone. Scorpion flies just came out. I did see a male and a female within the last week just chilling out on some American Jumpseed.

  • Yeah, I really agree. As I finish my first run through his pikes, I realize that I've not listened to barely anything else since October. Absolutely, positively impressive work across multiple genres. Sounds that I've never heard represented in music. Chaos for sure, but it leaves you smiling from ear to ear.

    Additionally, he plays with emotion. It's very evident in his tribute works. Soothsayer (Aunt Suzie), Colma (Dad), Hold Me Forever (Mom). Those are some of his best pikes even if they are not wild and thrashy. It's the emotion in the music coming through. I like that.

    On a personal level, I was amazed at how thoughtful he is. He is an odd one, but in a good way. When you actually do get him out of his stage persona, he's very well spoken and emits a positivity rarely seen in metal, or music at all anymore. His parents would be so very proud of him, and that's likely all he ever wanted.

    I misjudged Bucket 30 years ago. It was a huge error on my part that cost me so much great music over the years. I sit here right now listening to the third part of Drift (Pike 231), and it's just a w e s o m e! Think I might rewind it even. I wish I hadn't missed out on this for decades. I would not wish that upon anyone else.

    If only they had sayings about not prejudging people and things, maybe I would not have been such an asshole. Maybe I would have done myself a solid by just listening to his music. That he makes available for free. It's not like he even gets preachy in the lyrics.

  • I saw the same one I think, if it's the one on Reverb that starts where Bootsy tells the odd story of how they met.

    Yeah, for better or worse, Bucket stays in character all the time. He really don't talk at all unless he uses Herbie (I dislike that thing). I do like that he's hanging with Bootsy. Those two round each other off just right. There's a great video where he stopped his show mid jam because he saw Bootsy in the crowd. He felt the need stop so that he could go give his friend a hug.

    He does have (2) actual interviews out there on NatterNet regarding his health. He speaks conversationally in both interviews, and speaks well. His illness is actually bringing him out of his shell a little bit.

    I have never really used any major social media. I feel pretty strongly that it is a solid waste of time and a real mind toxin to the user. And for what it's worth, CD's are still king to me.

    I gotta say though. Youtube does have just about every song I've ever searched for. They are likely not the only one either.

    If you're looking to discover something new, word of mouth is generally king due to a lack of bias. Make friends with common strangers like workers at your grocery or retail stores. Ask around. Find someone who has a similar slant to your earhole and ask them for suggestions. I usually go with the ol "Are you into

    ? Whats another good band in a similar vein?" I discover a LOT of new music this way as well as share some too.

  • Yeah, that was the one, and I couldn't agree more about it being the best joypad. Logitech was the best for PC, but fell far short of a PS joystick quality.

    The company did have to stop selling them at the request of Sony. A friend, the one who told us all about it, tried to order one too late. The order stalled for a week before getting cancelled if I remember right.

    You were probably one of a lucky few that got theirs in that slim window of availability. Congrats.

  • Most DM's are bad. I am a bad DM. It is not a task fit for everyone. When you've had a really good DM, it's hard to go back. As I think about a few of the worst DM's i've ever had, I'd pay money to have anyone else DM it instead.
