  • Got a friend who lives out in woods that look (to my naive-about-nature eyes) like that. Seems nice. I send him pictures of cool stuff I find in the city. Some fun grass is greener times for all.

  • One time I couldn't figure out how to do something in this old game I was replaying. Typed in the problem, and found an old forum post of mine where I explained what to do in that section. At least I didn't do a classic "nevermind - solved it" post back then.

  • I have thought about writing a story about someone who kills all the leadership ghouls who force return to office, no holiday pay, and so on. Not sure what I could do to raise it from revenge porn to something deep.

  • When I was on unemployment I asked them what the state expected me to do if I still didn't have a job despite my best efforts, and the unemployed benefits ended. They just awkwardly laughed.

We live in the bad place because we let people be rich, and then let them make the rules.

  • Turns out for some reason I thought the old 1920x1080 kind of display was 1k. Nope. That's not what you call that.

  • NYC, but I can't promise I'm representative of how people talk, heh.

I went on a brief tangent trying to find what people call it by region but didn't find a cool map of anything. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grocery_store does say that it's sometimes used as I did, though.

  • Legitimately aggravating. Well done.

  • This supermarket used to have self checkout, but they got rid of it for some reason.

They do have a line reserved for Uber eats, door dash, etc. Not a fan of that.

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. Got it before I got laid off and before prices went super crazy.

I'm only playing on a 1k 1080p monitor so i wasn't pushing it very hard, but it ran without issue.

  • BJ's does that and it's very fast. They have a guy at the exit do a spot check, but there's basically no line.

BJ's does have an annual subscription though, which sucks.

  • I think I've read that it is about perception, which is up there with children thinking the tall, narrow, glass has more water after pouring the short wide glass into it.

  • Right? But it was so ... Short sighted, to think it would last forever and you'd never need to organize.

  • That worked for me fine on Linux (pop!_os). Remake worked on the steam deck, too.

  • The supermarket is a 5 minute walk from my apartment, and for the past few years didn't have big lines. I don't know if they changed staffing, or it got more popular, or what.

There are some smaller grocers that don't typically have long lines nearby, but I don't think they have the big tubs of peanut butter I lust after, or a few other things I sometimes get. I should probably check out the smaller grocers anyway

  • I remember an old coworker said he was anti union. "I'd just find another job if I didn't like the one I had", he said. Bold claim.

  • I really dislike that most groceries don't have one big line that feeds into registers. It's just stupid to allow me to get stuck behind someone who's arguing about a coupon for 5 minutes while people who came after me flow through the other registers.

The grocery by me also never seems to have enough checkout staff to keep the lines short. There's a lot of people with full carts, and no express line. I end up waiting for 10 minutes to buy some bread and bananas .

  • Criminal penalties for decision makers. Jail time. Disgorgement of profits.

  • Maybe it's like micro transactions - once you break the seal you're much more likely to keep going.
