  • Kierunkowy74 > technically Friendica or some NodeBB users can take part in discussions with their users too, but…

    But what?

  • Blaze (he/him) Comment consolidation really isn't a solution, and is an amazingly short-sighted fix. It works to prevent the establishment of local community or server cultures, and presumes the end-point of the fediverse is a more complicated, less well funded version of centralized media. That the "fediverse" is out there, and that any particular website is just an empty vessel to access it.

This actively works against everything we need to actually create a space that appeals to people who aren't here already. It cuts us off aat the knees before we've even stood up.

Like, imagine merging politics on Midwest.social and politics on lemmy.ca...

  • Pandantic [they/them] Or shuttered. Site admins need to be actually managing their websites, not just keeping the server online. Behaving like corporate social media operators doesn't provide a meaningful difference from corporate social media for most people.

  • die4ever@retrolemmy.com Yeah. Controlled growth is important when you're trying to grow a forum. Especially when you're trying to grow a forum that is aping someone else's UX (and doing it kind of poorly). But, of course, there's an option in the server settings to limit who can create new communities, and seemingly no site admins have chosen to use it.

But the other thing is just... you can't advertise "Lemmy". This has been the problem with everything on the Fediverse. Everyone is trying to sell the server software as the experience. It's like trying to get people to your blog or whatever by selling them on "Wordpress".

  • The issue is, people keep trying to treat this space like Reddit, a website with multiple orders of magnitude more users than the entire Fediverse.

We need to grow things out in a more controlled manner. Broader topic spaces that can house discussions of of families of niche topics. Themed servers.

Meaningful attempts to advertise these spaces outside of fedi, to people who are interested. And that means selling them on something other than "Lemmy", because "Lemmy" isn't a selling point to basically anybody.

  • redweasel@lemmy.world > Why is this even associated with autism specifically?

It isn't, exclusively at least. But autistic people seem to be targeted at a fairly high rate by Cluster B folks, thanks in no small part to our tendency to take people at face value and trust people when they say they think/believe/will do things, so it's a common shared experience among autistics.

    > Do you claim that people being repeatedly interrupted in conversation with others only happens to autistic people

    No. And neither does OOP.

    > or happens more frequently to autistic people

    No. And neither does OOP.

    > or that it happening is “harder” on an autistic person than it is on neurotypicals

    No. And neither does OOP.

Now, did you jump into this thread just to Well, akshually, or did you have a real point that's of interest to the rest of the class? Because my issue here is that you seem to want to make the discussion about your disruptive smug fuckery, and think having that pointed out in any way makes the pointer an asshole.

Which makes you a colossal dickhead. And a troll.

Go back to harassing the goats on your bridge.

  • fridam@lemmy.blahaj.zone This. There's some sort of flow and cadence they lock on to, and seem to know when to give way and when to take over. There might even be body language they're reading to know when to jump in and when to yield. I've watched it happen at work for years now, where my pod of coworkers will be discussing an issue, and they all just speak seamlessly, one person's sentence sending and the next person's beginning like they had coordinated. Meanwhile, I'll be sitting there waiting for everyone to stop and give a clear signal that there is room to add my own thoughts, and the space never comes.

Usually my manager puts the breaks on the discussion to say "Kichae, it looks like you have something you want to add". Or, I just stop waiting for an opportunity and start talking over people, and I'm the largest and loudest guy in the room, so they stop.

  • lostcarcosan@lemmy.today No. I'm not upset at all. Why do you choose to read my comment as I were? I thumbed my nose at someone who dripped in with nothing to contribute other than being a jerkass prick, but that's different from being upset.

Are you supporting the little whiny one?

  • Angryhumanoid Why? What have I done that is assholeish, other than point out that there might be a reason these posts keep coming up?

Whining about them seems like awfully fucking dickhead behaviour, though.

  • Angryhumanoid The autistic experience of being told the thing that happens to you and that feels especially bad or frustrating is normal, so STFU about it. As if finding shit everyone around you sees as normal insufferable isn't part of the autistic experience.

  • iamnorrealtakeyourmeds@lemmy.world > find a neurolospicy friend group. Immediately. Go to where you think you’ll will want to hang out, find a neurolospicy group, and force you way in. best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

It should be noted, this trick doesn't work if the group is all extroverted ADHD-havers.

  • njm1314@lemmy.world Did you want to see the phrase "hotdog melt" today? Because I didn't. But you had to be a pedant about things.

  • dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org Oh, no, I mean they literally told me "I thought this was going to be like being characters in a book, where there's a clear plot we're following. Can you make it more like that?" And so I did.

Then they found The Thing during one of the sessions I was running while trying to actually structure things in the background. It was something I didn't think was significant, but I probably should have seen it coming.

It... was not part of the restructuring work I was doing. It was part of the holding pattern "random bullshit" I was throwing at them for a few weeks.

Anyway, the campaign is about that now.

  • dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org This is why I did not plan long term plots for my family game, and then the chaos monkeys decided they wanted one.

    So I put one together.

    They ignored it.

  • osanna@lemmy.vg There's a vast, vast gulf between "life is not imbued with inherent meaning" and "I just don't see the point in anything". Nihilism, as a world view, isn't generally crippling. It just boils down to "this is what this is, and nothing more".

You don't sound like a nihilist, you sound deeply depressed. You can be a nihilist and depressed, but what you're expression sounds much more like depression rather than nihilism.
